3 turns is 1/8'' 24 turns is 1'' 48 turns is 2'' It will take 48 turns of the screwdriver to drive in the screw all the way.

3 turns:1/8” requires 16 of those units to yield 2”. 16*3 turns = 48 turns

At first I thought the answer was 45 because I thought was how many more turns to completely lower the screw after it had already been lowered 1/8".

I thought the same thing, but wouldn’t that be 42? I’m terrible at this stuff : (
@warblerab2955

@@markashlock9017 sorry, that is incorrect. If the screw is 2", it means the screw go down 2" to lower all the way. If it has already been lower 1/8", it still need to be lowered another 15/8". Since you do 3 turns to get the screw 1/8" lower , You do 45 turns to lower the screw 15/8". (3 for every 1/8", 15/8" , 3 *15 is 45.

Since you’re going by 1/8’s of an inch per 3 turns. You then take how many 1/8’s of an inch are in 2 inches. And that’s 16. Multiply that by the number of turns per 1/8 of an inch, which is 3. 3 times 16 is 48, is the number of turns you have to make to have the screw go 2 inches. That’s how I got the answer.

@@Vipre- right!! But that’s how normally functioning people do it. What’s John’s attempt is teaching high schoolers going to or aiming for college. And I’m sure that he’s filling in past school age people that wanna know the full explanation for better sureness of why they are right and the proof to anyone that would need to know the maybe required answer. I see where you’re coming from, but I also see what the creator of this KZbin channel is covering. And since he is a Middle and High School teacher, it’s just in his natural thinking to cover all bases to ensure that as few as possible don’t know or understand the teachings. But I also have fun attempting the taught n different way for fun too. Ha Ha.

48 turns.... at 3 turns per 1/8 in increment, , there are 16 of these increments in 2 inches.Therefore, 16 x 3 = 48 turns total... 45 more than were initially done.

@GetMeThere1 6 ай бұрын
I thought about it slightly differently. If 3 turns = 1/8" then 1 turn - 1/24". So 48 turns is 2". I think that's slight different than the solutions below. For me the natural way is to figure out ONE turn, and then calculate from there.

I see these videos to exercize solving such things in my head without writing up a lot of formal math and I got it in two steps. First (1/8)/3 gives 1/24 Then 2/(1/24) gives 2*24 which is 48.

This one is easy. You take the log of 1/8 divided by the square root of the diameter of the screwdriver handle, then multiply the length of the screwdriver by the pound torque of your left hand. Add the results to the age of the person handling the screwdriver and raise that to the 16th power, and solve using the quadratic formula, which leads to answer which is 842,112 turns.

That only works if you reverse the polarity of the neutron flow first, and thread the screw into a base of prefabulated amulite. Otherwise side fumbling of the dingle arm will kill you and the capacitive duractance will leak from the spurving bearing.

Depends on how deep the screw was in the first place.
@vincentrobinette1507
@vincentrobinette1507 6 ай бұрын
Technically, the screw started 1/8" in, which took the first 3 of the 48 turns necessary to set the screw the full 2". The way it was worded, 45 should have been the correct answer. However, stating that the screw sets 1/8 inch in 3 turns, merely defines a rate, not necessarily implying that the screw was already turned 3 times, to take that measurement.

A very sharp 12 year old kid is going to note something quite relevant, not noted in the Comments below. I suspect that everybody is assuming that a "turn" is a full turn. I suspect in the operation of the screwdriver that each "turn" is far less than 360 degrees. My guess is it is less than 180 degrees. So, three "turns" is really 1.5 turns of the screw itself, and 24 screw turns are needed. So the screw is really a very coarse screw, approximately 12 threads per inch. (Do I need 24 minutes to explain this?)

Ok teach, I began watching your video on learning basic fractions and its no wonder don't understand this because it's never explained in the use of everyday situations. Your example: 2/3 × 1/5 == 2/15. Well what does 2/15 even mean??? Use an example like a pie. If you have 2/3 of a pie and 1/5 of a pie ( and why you would want to multiply this anyway I don't know why) but you just say " here's your answer ". The students are left wondering what does 2/15 even mean in relation to the pie. Use real life situations and show examples so students can see and understand how this is even practical.
