Angie, What do you use to make the songs the length that you want them? Do you cut them or ? I can not find the songs you use in the length that you say you have . Help?

I usually just stopped them mid song on my phone. I had a playlist with the songs I used and in the general order in which I used them during the day and then I didn’t have to search for them. I also did a KZbin playlist list with songs.

I did a blog post that will help you: www.makingthebasicsfun.com/classroom-songs-for-transitions/ and www.makingthebasicsfun.com/how-to-use-transition-songs-in-the-classroom/ I will still try to get that pdf done so you can print for a reference.

Hi Angie I LOVE this idea. Is there a way to do this on a desktop computer?

You can upload songs to your computer…I think 🤔. You can also do a playlist list on a music streaming site. I’d recommend some really good speakers.

I just love this idea but I have a technical question. Did you play a series of songs off of KZbin, or did you subscribe to spotify or some service, or use a cd? I can't wrap my head around the how of how to get the same songs to play in sequence daily with no ads unless I create a cd.

I had a playlist on my phone for most songs. My phone was connected to speakers via Bluetooth. And sometimes I used KZbin but it was always a little stressful because you never know with KZbin and ads. You could try KZbin kids maybe you would get less dicey ads. I liked my playlist. Then I could order it just like I wanted and I had my phone with me 9/10ths of the time and could control the music from anywhere in the room. Hope that helps.

Hello, new subscriber here. I was moved from 4th to 1st grade and I’m having a hard time with classroom management, but your videos are very helpful. Question, what kind of songs did you use?

Hi Angie! Commenting from Belgium 🇧🇪 Was just wondering how long it takes for students to get it automatic at the beginning of the year... I guess they have to learn the association between the expected behavior and the heard song... And that at first you have to systematically guide them every morning... So how do you proceed? Learning one song at a time making the Playlist longer week after week until it's complete? Or do you propose te Playlist all in a while? Thanks a lot!

Great question. I would start with a task like placing papers in mailboxes. I would teach them exactly what I wanted them to do (walk, place paper in mailbox then quickly return to their seat and cleanup pencils:crayons, no talking and eyes on the teacher). It really doesn’t take as long to teach them as you might suspect. Maybe 2-3 days after you’ve taught it. Praise and reward are important in those first days. So make sure they know what is expected and celebrate what is being done correctly. You can get this transition down to less than 30 secs. It’s fun and it saves the teachers energy and and voice. Play the playlist every morning but add/teach a desired behavior one at a time. By the end of 5-10 days you will be in awe over their responsiveness to the music.
