Finely somebody is speaking loudly about chronic stress impact on our health. I always knew it. It caused my diabetes, despite healthy eating and healthy life style ( no alcohol, smoking, drugs) . Becoming older, we are loosing stress resilience. Stress, wich impossible to avoid: unhealthy emotional work environment, children bullied in school , Immigration, racism.

+1 exactly this. I only recently learned I'm on the spectrum, and now the life long fight or flight mode I'm in makes sense. As do the bullying as a kid and even continued as an adult, the discrimination and just no safe place to try and calm down. Looking at the world, they say healthy food due to climate change is going to become a luxury for the wealthy. Poor people (and most of middle class) will have to do with unhealthy calories. I think the same is happening with our society regarding stress. It's only increasing for the bottom 60-70%, only wealthy people can afford to disconnect and relax, the rest of us are going into survival mode for the entire time. On the spectrum or not.

Agreed. Also, constant stress goes hand in hand with reduced sleep quality and quantity, very likely also with bad eating. Caused because when you are stressed, you cannot eat because your stomach is in hurtful spasm and your whole gastrointestinal system is inflamed and the microbiome also greatly suffers from it. Then when you are very hungry and sleep deprived you crave glucose and nice sweet treats. Sleep deprivation always increases the likelihood of overeating and bad choices like lots of cakes, desserts, ice cream and stuff in great quantities, while your organs are more insulin resistant die to the stress response. If not sweet than savory, equally high GI ultraprocessed food like chips, nachos, fast food and pre packaged ultraprocessed stuff. Or sandwitches made from multiple ultraprocessed foodstuff. All while your digestion also suffers from stress so you cannot eat when you should next time, then your body is more hungry and you... Too much and wrong kind of fat is also craved and consumed together with lots of high GI carbohydrates leads to even worst things, including fattening... Constant stress is also often comes with deep depression or constant anxiety... Stress if constant and unhealthy, causes an avalanche of a shyte storm including but not limited to diabetes, autoimmune diseases, gastrointestinal problems, obesity, memory loss, Alzheimer's and other neurodegenerative things, even may cause lessened libido or erectile dysfunction. Of course it all depends on the individual and the time and severity of the stress. But these negative impacts actually all amplify each other. All in all: Constant strong stress is ausing a shortened life, that life spent in illnesses and a psychological hellscape. Edit: I wrote it when I haven't started watching the podcast yet and I now realize that Dr. Chatterjee also talked about most of these. I'm leaving it as is, however. Maybe it may be helpful to someone.

It's an interesting idea to reduce stress, slightly difficult to put into practice in December as a somewhat unprepared (and pre diabetic) woman in the run up to Christmas!

So... long ago people never had to deal with other people? never had a foot-in-mouth moment? had no concerns about food safety? never had to constantly monitor toddlers behaviour while striking the right balance between keeping them safe a d letting them learn and develop?

I use a cuff blood pressure device and can watch my blood pressure go up by thinking of people either previously or currently in my life. 😱.

Am I the only one who imagines conversing with Jonathan and having him repeat his version of every point? "So what you're saying is your stomach is filled like a dump truck, but you don't know which room contains the toilet because you've never been in my house, and you need me to tell you where the bathroom is. Sadly, if you can't reach the bathroom quickly, you'll make a mess in front of me. Is that right?"😆
