Other senior medical experts have said you cannot overdose on vitamin D. Additionally, they say it's essential to support the immune system especially during illness. Many recommend 4000iu daily. Clearly this is a major difference of opinion, do you own research and make your own decisions.

Like Jonathan, I had a rough start to intermittent fasting. My breakthrough came with the following 2 changes: I reduced to 2 meals per day, with breakfast after 10:00 and the second meal drawn out in 2 or 3 courses between around 16:00 and 17:00. But more importantly, as a vegetarian with the occasional fish and seafood, I take care that my last meal is focused on protein to keep me satiated till the next day. I am 71 years young with a clean bill of health, and I enjoy my clear mind, particularly during fasting.

I would love Zoe to have a session or comment on the book "Change your diet change your mind" by Dr Georgia Ede, which seems to contradict everything that Zoe encourages of what a healthy diet should look like. I'm very sceptical reading, but it would be great to have an opinion on what their suggested ketogenic diets do to the gut and their long-term effects.

I've just started reading Tim Spector's book, "Spoon-Fed". I simply can't understand why there appears to be nothing in the index referring to forever chemicals, PFAS etc. How could this huge subject not be included, considering how many of our foods apparently contain these poisons? Does anyone know what else I could look up in the index as I don't want to read a whole book about food if it ignores the vile threat that is forced upon us by the food industry. What's the point in eating 'healthy' foods if they actually do more harm than good? It's sinister the way this subject seems to get so little coverage. Thanks

It made sense to me since I was young that extreme sport is damaging to the body, just like anything extreme like eating or drinking, so I exercise until I lightly sweat and that equals to about 20 minutes of moving moderately, I see the difference.

Amylose and Amylopectin. The two main starches. The enzymes in the body will break apart the chains of glucose molecules in the starch. Amylose has only a few points for these enzymes to attach to, whereas Amylopectin has many, which means it is absorbed faster and spikes the blood sugar. Take away fibre and of course this spike is even worse.

Just wanted to sign up for Zoe, but pulled out when I had to answer the question: what sex I was ‚assigned‘ at birth!! Sex is observed, NOT assigned. You are pretending on being all about science on here, but then failing in basic biology?! 🤯 Sorry, everything you say here now I somewhat cannot take seriously anymore…

I respect and have learned a great deal of excellent information from Zoe Podcasts. I noticed this podcast said it was issued five months ago. Is this the correct original release date? It seems as if it were made five years ago from the scientific information as presented. If it was issued five months ago the emphasis should have been simply on lowering ApoB particles in the blood. You could also explain cholesterol levels in the blood were used as a surrogate until better, less expensive analyses were available for ApoB particles. The bad cholesterol is found in foam cells in the plaque, I believe. Do you put the actual release dates on podcasts or parts of podcasts? If the whole or parts of a podcast are issued later, it should show the original date for the sake of the science. Thanks for all the great programming.

Very interesting. Including that the episode is sponsored by Nutella!! In Australia at least. Also that Sarah favours olive oil generally. But, and something not raised here, if we go beyond immediate individual health outcomes it’s a different story. If you think of planetary health, oils that come from annual crops are not great (even though they may be cheap because hidden environmental costs aren’t factored in). I’ve worked in Integrated Pest Management (admittedly 10 or so years ago). The number of chemicals to even get Canola/rape out of the ground is nothing short of terrifying. Not sure about sunflower/safflower/soy etc. pretty much nothing else can live below or above ground in conventional cropping systems because everything is taken for short term yield. Including pushing the crop as close to waterways as possible. This means we lose biodiversity and carbon and cannot buffer microclimates. And have to use a lot of chemicals typically. All of that carbon, microclimate aspects and biodiversity is essential for planetary - and ultimately individual health. Very different where oils come from perennial (i.e., nuts and olives) plants. Way way fewer chemicals and other life coexists (at least in restorative/regenerative systems). This includes livestock being a part of that in many cases. So this is a narrowly focussed view from Zoe. Perhaps seed oils not so terrible for an individual directly as some say. But that’s only a part of the story.
