Hi Emma, when I read one of my English books, There is a word used in one sentence not sounding right to me. “AS 4100 has no specific provisions for determinating forces involved in prying force”. Here determinating sounds weird to me. Determining sounds more comfortable from my point of view. Could you please confirm

Your video has saved me from giving up myself and I really want to thank you a lot. Born as a Chinese, I don’t really have the chance to learn how to speak and pronounce English properly for the past 15 years. But it actually doesn't affect me much because I never need to use English to communicate back in my own country. However, things change after I have to study overseas alone as I receive a scholarship offered me to study in Singapore. So I am forced to learn English in order to interact with other people. However, the process of learning English is TRAUMATIC. The school understands that because we do not have strong English foundation, they actually arrange for us English Bridging Class for us and we are actually quite grateful for that. The teacher who is appointed to teach us English keep criticising us that we have ”weird, funny foreign accent” and keep humiliating us in front of the whole class whenever our pronunciation is inaccurate. Although she keeps saying that she criticises us is because she hopes that we can improve, but she NEVER really teaches us how to pronounce the words accurately. I even had several emotional breakdowns after she makes fun of my weird pronunciation in front of the class. After being taught by her, English is like a nightmare for me and every time I try to speak English, I am so self-conscious and nervous, afraid to make another silly pronunciation mistake. However, after watching your video, I feel that I can be more confident, I don't really need to care what she thinks of me as I am learning English for myself. And your videos about the correct ways to pronounce certain vowels and words are really very useful for me to improve my pronunciation. Thank you a lot, without your videos I really don't know how to overcome my fear towards English. 🙏🏻 How much I hope that you are my English teacher.

In my opinion, fluency is when your confidence let words flow directly and automatically from brain to mouth, with no need to think about HOW you say something but only WHAT you want to say. Exactly as you do every time you have to say something in your native language. Language is a tool (actually the first we learn from the very beginning of our life), and as with any other tool you don’t think too much before using it when you’re an expert...you just use it... Of course you need a lot of practice. BTW, Emma you’re great! I really feel comfortable with your way of teaching. You’re clear, neither too fast (I’m not a native speaker) nor too slow (I’m not a dumb)... And I love your radiance!! 🌞 Keep up the good work 💪👍

Fluency for me means to be able to communicate with native speakers without feeling any difficulty in language. It also means an 8.5 in IELTS speaking test. And it is not only about the language, but the ability to tell a story effectively to someone. Sometimes I find it hard to tell a story effectively even using my 1st language. But it is important if we want to speak fluently. Therefore, I think, fluency means good language knowledge and good story telling skills.

There are four types of persons: 1. A person fluent both in speaking and writing in English; 2. Fluent in speaking but poor in writing; 3. Fluent in writing but fair in speaking; 4. Poor both in speaking and writing. For instance, most of the personnel working in a Call Center are articulate in speaking English but that doesn't mean they are fluent. To become fluent, we have to learn the grammar rules, spelling, punctuations, tenses, prepositions, adjectives, adverbs, verbal phrases, the figure of speech (idioms) the native slang (shortened language), among others which take time to learn it. Not to mention the standard phonetic sound cause wrong pronuciation will change its meaning; otherwise, it would cause misunderstanding with the native English speakers.

For me, fluency means being able to say whatever you are thinking without any problems... One day I hope I can be more confident and better to speak and write English. Emma, I've been watching your videos for a while, but just recently ago I have been more confident to actually speak with confidence...soo thank you very much.

Hi Emma, I 've been studying to be a tourism guide and I want to be fluent in this area. Also everything which involves travels. And last week I found out a blog about a solo female traveler, I follow her youtube channel and sometimes I watch her videos about her travels! I think it'll help me a lot to improve my vocabulary and to be fluent in this specific things! Another thing , I'd like to thank you cause your videos's been helping me a lot to improve my pronunciation! =)

Emma. Your are an amazing English teacher!!!. I want to speak like you. Fluency for me is leaving behind my strong Spanish accent . I need to change that, specially for my work. When I start any conversation the first question is where I'm from because of my accent, immediately my confidence go down to the lowest level. Thanks for your lessons.
