I have a growler filler with tubing on it for my taps.. but I bought flow control taps, and if I dial the flow way down I can just fill bottles straight off the tap by tilting the bottle at an angle to let the beer run down the side of the bottle. Usually I can get a bottle filled pretty much right to the top, and better than the first two attempts in this video. A lot of people seem to have a beef with flow control taps, but I'm happy with mine. I also run 15' of 3/16 tubing on all my beer lines. Slower pours, but less head.

Pull the tube from the tap after filling the growler and then pull the tube out the growler .... less mess and easier than having to tilt the growler and mess beer out the top trying to get it out from under the tube 👍

great video, thank you! Ive got a nukatap, like your last option, but a lot of my beers are coming out quite flat and even though I've got counter pressure I am still getting quite a lot of foam. Apart from dropping the temperature is there anything else I can do? Drop serving pressure?

I've been doing the same thing for a while now, only straight from the tap. I only fill bottles a couple times per year. Honestly I thought the bottle wand + stopper was probably jankier and messier than more expensive solutions, but after watching this video I still I'll stick with it.

Carbonation caps with beer line attached are another good way to go. The plastic ones are cheapish. They also allow you to dump some extra pressure in at the end to increase the carbonation back up.
@FloraBrewing
@FloraBrewing 3 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah I’ve seen them they’re awesome! Do you swap the lid if you give them away?
@eternaldrive
@eternaldrive 3 жыл бұрын
@@FloraBrewing I have done both leaving the cap on and replaced them. I normally leave them on if they are likely to come back (most go to family and friends that live locally). I found the ones I switched the caps on had less carbonation. From memory the switch was done pretty much done straight after transfer which probably didn't help. I think you could fiddle with the keg temp, pressure and chill the filled bottle down before you switch the lids. Worth experimenting with. I recently got a bunch of plastic ones in for cheap and would be less worries about them coming back. They also can be used to make a dead simple line cleaner. I also bought one of the t - type counter flow fillers but I haven't tested it out. I hear they can paint your ceiling if your not careful.

Nice vid! In regards to your gas leak, I bet you are missing the little white nylon washer that goes inside the swivel fitting on the end of the gas hose. It's not needed for the ball lock fitting because it's plastic but the flare fitting on the beer gun is metal and needs the washer to seal. I have a bag of them, they are easy to lose. Cheers!

Use bleached sugar and do not use brown sugar for this idea! You will get explosive results if you use brown sugar!
@runargraneng4237
@runargraneng4237 3 жыл бұрын
@@000scubasteve First, refined sugar is not bleached, it just does not have the impurities of the raw sugar. Second, refined/table sugar will produce more CO2 than brown sugar, so you are actualy more likely to overcarbonate it with table sugar. Both can potentialy blow the bootle, but you only fill enough to eat the oxygen, the beer is already carbonated.

It's ok to let the foam come out of the counter pressure valve. You can buy an attachment that fits into the valve with a silicon hose to direct unwanted foam into another bottle/receptacle. A.so, once the valve is set, there's no need to touch it if your filling several bottles.

I need me a counter pressure filler... And a kegging system. I don't mind the sediment (especially in something like a Belgian, or saison), but I know MOST people do. Personally, unless it's super thick and gross, I swirl the yeast into the last ounce or so and just drink it (and usually even ENJOY the different taste). But I hate when my pour is ruined. Still like a nice clear beer in the glass. Stouts are my favorite style to drink, but there is something that is supremely SATISFYING about brewing a crystal clear beer.

I'm sure you know this already but I thought ide mention it anyway. The gas leak is cuzz you need a silicon washer for the flared fittings. The reason you don't have one is because the ball lock disconnect already have a rubber flare on it. I'm thinking that's what your issue is... Just FYI.

Why do you like competitions? I find BJCP categories restrictive and typically do poorly as I like to play with my recipes a bit too much. I fill directly from my tap to bottles / growlers. The foam pushes any o2 out and if your bottles are cold it's minimal. I do love that beer gun though. Those are awesome. Oh and I love my Intertap Faucets. What's the worry with o2? It just seems like brewers are so fixated / obsessed / paranoid over it. I'm not overly cautious but I'm not reckless either and have had no problems with anything stemming from oxidization. Never purge bottles, kegs or growlers. Although I brew a lot of Belgian and European styles.
@FloraBrewing
@FloraBrewing 3 жыл бұрын
I like comps to get feedback on my beers, I don't fully trust my tastes or the tastes of my friends to get the real truth ;) I've definitely had IPAs go brown from oxygen but I feel you with the what's the big deal I've never had o2 really affect flavor that I'm aware of but it will make a bright orange NEIPA go brown easy.

Mmmm sanitizer flavored beer..... this isn’t micro bio , one doesn’t need that much sanitizer. Beer infections are pretty rare. And it should be rinsed out of bottles and tools so it not actually in your beer....
@mattcaldwell4727
@mattcaldwell4727 3 жыл бұрын
Well, it doesn't really matter, you can just dump it out and the amount that clings to the glass is ok. It's called no-rinse sanitizer because you don't need to rinse it. Properly diluted it's a tiny quantity of mild acid, doesn't affect flavor at all.
@jasonburns5786
@jasonburns5786 3 жыл бұрын
Yah I know what it is ,but I’d argue anything extra could affect taste, body ,even head retention . Being an acid it could even lower ph a tad. Did you notice how much was in the line before going into the bottle even? I’d never drink that.
