Darryl, I appreciate how you continue to encourage us 68.5 year old men to continue to stick with it. In Him, Monte

This is wonderful! I'll be sending the link to my students. Daryl, you are always so practical and encouraging. I pray that the Lord will continue to bless you ministry. Thanks so much for your work my brother.

🍕 Spot on on all three points. I recall when I'd just finished beginning Greek some years ago, mentioned to my wife that I was able to read a certain text and understand it, then she asked me to do so. 😅 Boy did I flounder badly, and on top of that it revealed to me that I was still translating in my mind the text into English instead of truly understanding a text the first read through in Greek! From that point forward I'd decided to utilize auditory by reading out loud every Greek text I come across, and now a number of years later, I'm able to read Greek text comfortably out loud, with understanding.

I've started incorporating a chapter of Greek into my daily devotion time. The repetition of chapters really does help.

🍕I'm looking forward to this phase of learning. I think of my 14 month old grandson and how much we repeat words and phrases as he learns basic english. He listens and watches our mouths as we say it over and over. Repetition is the heart of learning. Great video!

My variable schedule keeps me from joining your class and group sessions, but I think that's a great idea to just read Greek with others. I'll have to make it work some other way. I wanna finish BBG and Decker first. I'm about a chapter per week, so I hope I can finish by Christmas. 🍕 I'll have to look up some good links to listen to Koine Erasmian Greek. Feel free to share if anyone has some. YT or other

One of my outside readings is Euclid's Elements, because I'm a mathematician.

🍕 Why struggle through 3 verses rather than read something more level appropriate like Mark Jeong's NT reader or Macdonald's LGPSI or even Stoffel's Epitome of the NT? Surely if I'm just beginning to learn a language I wouldn't just jump straight into a text aimed at adult native speakers?

If you're just beginning, then this video isn't really aimed at you. This is aimed at someone who has completed beginning Greek already.

The person you describe in the video is slowly picking through the text 3 verses at a time. In my mind that's still a beginner reading above their level. Would not reading something easier be not only more enjoyable but a more profitable use of time?

@@michaelg5962 1 John is really easy compared to most foreign texts; John and Mark too. If you are also learning vocab and use a reader's edition (as Darryl recommends) then you will get past 'picking through the text 3 verses at a time' in a matter of days... Even after going through a sub-par textbook and forgetting a good third of it that was my experience. Just get stuck in, repeat on successive days as Darryl suggests, and the 3 verses a time stage will be over really fast.

What do you think about people who learn Greek from an English textbook (I have Rodney Decker's grammar) when English is not their first language? Alright😂 in other words, I'm just looking for some encouragement from you. Btw, hello from Romania!
@pierreabbat61575 ай бұрын
I don't know about Romanians learning Greek from English, but I once advised a Latin American (Venezuelan?) learning French from a book in English to get a French book in Spanish. French and Spanish are so much more similar grammatically than either is to English.

Hi Stefan! I learned Greek that way. This video is more about once you've got a basic grounding in the language, and how to improve from there. However, all these things can be used during the learning process, but they are not substitutes for a structured approach to learning. Keep up the great work!
