In this video I cover three ways that you can do a 1 by 1 tubular cast-on: provisionally with a crochet hook and waste yarn, using a long-tail cast-on with waste yarn, and doing the long tail, Italian tubular cast-on that requires no extra materials. I will list the timestamps for each technique below:
Technique 1: • 3 Ways to Do a Tubular...
Technique 2: • 3 Ways to Do a Tubular...
Technique 3: • 3 Ways to Do a Tubular...

After watching a bunch of demos I’m thrilled to have found a method - your first - that’s easy and works perfectly. This also-crocheter and continental knitter thanks you! 🤗

I'm soooo elated that you have presented THREE ways to do the Tubular CO. It was kinda of a mystery to see people do the CO in different ways and call it different names and ALL seem to end up the same !!! You did a fantastic job in your presentation. I wish you had a short video on how to do the same on the round. Whenever you have time, please add a circular needle Tubular Cast-ON. Great JOB 👍

Thank you! For in the round, you will start the exact same way (knitting flat) and then after it is set up, you will join to work in the round. This will leave a small gap that you can seam together with some extra yarn ☺️

The second one is my go to. I have messed the last one up so many times it outweighs its success. Waste yarn hold the edge beautifully and I leave it in till the last moment

Thank you so much! Your explanation is the first one that I could follow (not without a lot of repeats however!). I prefer the crochet hook method. I could do the Italian tubular however I could not get past that the stitches will unravel so easy especially when you get to the last stitch. Oh, and it is so fun to pull the yarn and watch it magically come free with the crochet hook method! Thank you for sharing your knowledge in such a patient and understandable way!

This is such a kind compliment! I am so happy to have helped! Also, when I do a tubular cast on in the round, I start it as I would a flat tubular cast on, finish the setup and then join to work in the round. I just seam the little gap with my tail.

The waste yarn cast-on for the first method can be done without a crochet hook. It's called a knitted cast-on, and it's a favourite of mine.

I think if you do a knitted provisional cast on you will have to cut or pick it out. I dont think it unzips like the crochet cast on.

Which is the stretchiest method? I knit socks and gloves and find so far that tubular cast on is not as stretchy as some long tail cast on methods, I love the look of it though.

I'm very confused about the slip purlwise/knit rows rows of all three of these methods. I'm using the crochet cast on method. After doing the yo knit row, when I do the slip purl wise knit, the bring the yarn forward acts like a yarn over and I'm increasing my stitch count. What am I not understanding about this? If I slip the stitch purlwise without bringing the yarn forward, I am not creating a yo that increases the stitch count. I don't see you creating a yo when you bring the yarn forward. Why am I? This doesn't make sense to me. Thanks for your help.

When you move the yarn forward/back, you have to be careful to bring it under the point of your needle and not over. I've made mistakes when I was first learning, where I forgot to bring my yarn back to the back of my work before doing my next knit stitch, and it resulted in a yarn over because of the way I brought the yarn where it needed to be for the stitch *after* inserting the needle through the stitch😅

So, does this result in a p1k1 rather than I k1p1? Or when you join in the round does it become k1p1?

Helpful! Question - with the first method - you mentioned wrapping yarn counter-clockwise which you did for the first 2 stitches but then I noticed you wrapped it clockwise for the remainder of stitches. Will this matter?
@ErieliKnits

Good catch! Clockwise is correct, but when I made the sample it still did what it needed to do even with switching part way through

U NEED TO SLOW DOWN WHEN U R DEMONSTRATING!
@magsinca
@magsinca 4 күн бұрын
I had a similar feeling, especially when trying to mirror her movements. KZbin has a function to slow and speed up the play. The downside is the audio becomes distorted, as well. So maybe turn off the audio during this time as you focus on mirroring movements. I find it helpful to note the time stamps (or whatever they’re called) of the key parts I want to watch over and over. That way, I can zip right to the spot. Good luck and happy knitting!

There are plenty of beginner videos on You Tube. Come back to 3 different tubular cast ons when you're ready and you'll be thankful the video isn't longer but can be slowed down by your settings. Nothing wrong with this video.
