This is terrific! I already knew the Italian cast-on, and how to convert from 1x1 to 2x2 ribbing, but this video is the best I've seen for both those things. And thank you for the jogless connection instructions. I'm bookmarking this one! Note to beginning knitters: No need for a provisional cast-on, no need for a crochet hook, just use this method. So elegant! Thank you - I feel confident I can actually do it with your explanation. And the exact right amount of talking, pointing out all the details that are so hard for us beginners - which is working end, which side is it really from, exception when last stitch is twisted, etc. I am so itching to try this. One difference, I don't have a perfect length round pin, so I'll pick a point near "middle" to have a magic loop in my cable, and hopefully avoid stretching the stitches. I appreciate the very necessary talk about aligning all stitches and avoid twisting by laying the project flat - I really messed up one project, when I lost my sense of up and down on the cast on. Obviously you are lightening fast, I appreciate you slowing down to my beginner speed.

I am very glad you like the video! I’ve cast on directly on a circular needle. If there aren’t too many stitches to cast on (like for a hat vs a bottom up sweater) you can use a straight needle for casting on. Switch to a circular needle for the first row (which is worked in the opposite direction), then join in the round at the beginning of the second row/round. :)

Thank you. Your videos for jogless italian cast on are the best I've found. A lot of my patterns call for 2K 2P stitches for the ribbing. Your video has 2P at the start. Any suggestions for what to do to start with 2K?

The joining in the round will be completely jogless and invisible after you weave in the yarn tail the way I showed it. And after completing the ribbing I would simply move the marker of the beginning of the round by 2 stitches.

Loved this video. Very clear and concise directions. I was already competent at knitting in the round and reasonably adept at tubular cast on on two needles ( not circular) but epically fail with combining the two. Any advice? Casting on correctly ( last stitch a knit) but when I come to first row after turning needle ( first stitch slipped purlwise) my knit stitches are not twisted but the purls. Hoping you can unravel my mistake. Thanking Irina and happy knitting❤

Hi Charlotte, I would check a couple of things: 1. see if you do Italian c/o exactly like I do, same hand movements. There are two ways, as far as I know, so you might be making different movements, especially if you are already used to knitting Italian c/o, so your knit stitches are facing left in the first row after c/o (mine are facing right). 2. Also, the first row is not yet in the round, it’s in the opposite direction. Check these two things. Hope this will help. :)
