a note about “holding yourself accountable”: i’d suggest instead of announcing your goal, you should stay quiet at first and announce it in the middle or during the end. usually when you announce it before you’ve started, you gain that satisfaction from people and your brain tricks you into thinking that you’ve done something when you really didnt, and it makes you want to do it less.

Letting go of the past is SO huge, love that you said that. So many people predict their futures based on their past or beat themselves up about something that's already done which only causes them to spiral. You can never change the past, but you always have a say in the now and the future.

Thankyou so, SO much for using your platform to help us down south! My parents were impacted by the fire that wiped out Balmoral in NSW, and very almost wiped out a chunk of my childhood town of Bargo. One of my friends lost his house and he, and his wife and kids, very almost died on New Years Eve from a separate fire further south a few weeks later. There is so much grief and anger and devastation down here but the generosity and compassion from other countries is truly breathtaking. Australia will never, ever be the same again after this - and we won't ever forget people like you who reached out to help

Thank you for all of your habit videos. They are more than just inspiring for me - something closer to life changing. I'm doing the 12 months of challenges this year (including those cold showers! haha) and it's all going to better for my physical and mental health in the long term. Already I've read half book in only the first week, and I'm getting back into the swing of moving and eating well and feeling productive. A whole year of a new habit is just too much to think about at first, and "everyday" is also a big commitment - but 30 day challenges and the two day rule make it manageable, realistic, and still gets me *doing* something. I cannot thank you enough for being that first spark of inspiration . Hope you have a wonderful, healthy, happy 2020 Matt! x

1.) Change the environment: Put reminders of your goals in a place where you will mostly see them. Prep if you need to make it easier. 2.) Accountability: have someone that can help you stay motivation with your goals, such as a gym partner. 3.) Use the 2 Day Rule: Do your goals for 2 days in a row & only skip one day in between, which gives you a chance to rest & take care of your mental health. PLEASE SUPPORT WITH THE FIRES IN AUSTRALIA!

There's a magical moment when a habit becomes a behaviour. It just becomes part of who you are. (edit: unless it's a bad habit... that's far less magical...)

Franklandish, I never heard that before. I stopped and asked myself if this has happened in my life. It has. I had developed a habit of following the 'one in one out rule.' It is now part of my behavior. I do not have to think about it. It is more of a sense that it is time to purge because 3-4 things have come into my space. I am in the process of carrying that out, as I received gifts for Christmas. The other most recent habit that quite quickly became my behavior, was not eating butter. I was happily surprised that it was not as difficult as I expected it to be. I hope that my newest habit of daily walking will at some magical moment become my behavior. ( :

I tell my friends and family abt what i plan to do and it always end up a) they make fun of me and basically bully me to stop coz that's"not me" to them. b) i have extremely short attention span so i jump to another thing in less than a day and i wouldn't care if i failed.

Yeah, sometimes not everyone can rely on their friends and family for that support. Look at it like this tho: the fact that they won't believe in you is all the reason to try and prove them wrong no matter what. Make those that don't believe in you your greatest motivators

Thank you for being vulnerable with the reality of choosing to develop self discipline, productivity, and habits. I find it inspiring how graceful you are with encouraging viewers to move forward to a better version of themselves while not shaming those who may not choose the lifestyle you have. I enjoy you, your journey, and the way you motivate not only myself but thousands of others. Keep up the good work!

theluschmaster yea cause you put the effort into writing things down and just marking them off idk it feels like you actually did the work rather then just seeing it disappear once it’s checked off , but you can do it !

I read an article from the New York Times in 2017 that said writing down your habits is more effective because you spend more time when you physically write something down. You're basically a genius. That's what I'm trying to say.
