Thank you for a jolly interesting and informative video. I am very lazy about guitar and I thought chord inversions were only really practicable for keyboards. Very interesting to see that with a little application it can be applied to a fret board.

hahahah, you are simply awesome! i play piano, but you make me want to play guitar, so my new approach is to play my piano like a guitar, and somehow its working. i especially loved the video on 7/8 and 7/4 time signatures. im definetly using the 7/8 time structure on my next song, and if i can, ill base 3 to 4 songs around this inverted chord structure, using that very 7/8 time code. i love the idea, and after a couple of months of not liking a damn thing ive written, im finally inspired , and have a direction. my label is screaming for new material, so now perhaps ill come up with something i actually like. yay!! thank you for being so awesome! oh, p.s. i loved the bloopers at the end, im still laughing !!

2:00 Second inversion is less consonant than First Inversion??? In my opinion, 1st Inversion is more dissonant. Do our ears work differently? Where did you get this information?
@MusicTheoryForGuitar10 ай бұрын
Maybe they work differently. I hear 2nd inversion chords as more dissonant. And most musicians and music theorists are of the same opinion (I can't think of a book of harmony that says the opposite). Mind you, I do not want to discount your perception - if they sound that way to you, you are not "wrong". Maybe you listen to music that uses lots 2nd inversion chords, or you like better the interval of a 4th in the 2nd inversion (rather than the 3rd in first inversion), or you are playing some specific voicing that make the 1st inv more dissonant than the 2nd. Maybe the specific thing you call "dissonance" is not the same thing I call "dissonance" (for instance, 1st inversion chords "want to move" more than 2nd inversion chords. That's not the same as dissonance, but there's not a real name for it)
@kiryucovers9 ай бұрын
@@MusicTheoryForGuitar Valid points. First off, with basic inversions, the difference between them can be extremely subtle. So to sort of "exaggerate" their quality, I play them on the lower registers, which brings out more of the harmonics and allows one to better hear the interplay between these harmonics. Doing this, C major in 1st inversion can start to sound like an Emin b6, while second inversion can start to sound more like a G Sus4 add6(13). Still very subtle, but it's there. Emin b6 contains a minor 6 and a minor second interval, both of which are quite crunchy. While the G Sus4 add6 contains a major 6 and the major second as its smallest interval. To me, this is why I hear C major in 1st inversion as more dissonant. I'm curious to hear your thoughts on this.

Is that a tubemeister 18 head? How do you like it?
@MusicTheoryForGuitar5 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I just sold it. It's a good head, but I'm using the Mark V/25 much more (this is what you hear in the videos). The Tubemeister is very functional and great to gig with (especially thanks to the ability of switching the power down to 1 watt). I recommend to give it a try and see if it's the tone you want or not - it sounds very different depending on the cabinet (as any good head should) so don't just try with his own cab.

@@MusicTheoryForGuitar If you don't mind me asking, what did the H&K lacked that the Mesa MarkV/25 had, in your opinion?
@MusicTheoryForGuitar5 жыл бұрын
@@dntinpalevo Well the Mesa costs 4 times the H&K, there are many points of difference :) Overall, I like the tones of the Mesa better: I prefer a bright guitar in a dark amp, and the H&K was too bright for me. I can still get the brightness in the Mesa if I need it. The Mesa is more versatile with the extra post EQ and the multiple options per channel. Ultimately, the Mesa is more 'my' sound. Then again, I gigged for years with the H&K, and when you set it at 1W, CRANK the volume, cut the treble and boost the mids then it sounds great and cuts through the mix wonderfully (the Mesa can do that too). Again, nothing to complain in either amp.

All right, forgive me for asking… But you’re playing slash chords and calling them inversions. If I just add an E below the CEG in order, that doesn’t really seem to be an inversion. I wonder if it’s an issue with the guitar versus the keyboard. Because on the keyboard, everything is truly linear and it’s very clear when you have created an inversion. Because when you play a standard open D chord… The three finger cowboy version. It’s already an inversion. Of course, that’s not quite true you have the open D string, which is your lowest note or the open a string since you can play that too. Anyway… You see what my question is: is there a difference between a slash cord, and a true inversion? And does this issue get complicated by the layout of the guitar fretboard.
