No do not take the whelping box down. Cora knows what she is doing. Leave it up for a while longer, it is Cora's safe haven for her puppies until they are about 6 to 8 weeks old. Do not rush the process.

I'm late catching up on the video. Glad you have warm weather. It's Friday already and we are supposed to get some snow overnight . Joy. My daffodils are shooting up along with other flowers and it's going to snow. It shouldn't last because it is supposed to be 46-48 Saturday which is tomorrow. They already brined the streets. I have raised successfully raised many litters of puppies. i.e. they were confident, social, and happy puppys, who completely trusted humans, when they left home around 9 - 10 weeks old. Cora seems like the perfect mum, so don't change a thing - especially the whelping box which she seems to have a special purpose for. If the hole she has dug is too deep simply add loads of straw and let Cora decide what to do with it. I would strongly recommend that you gently pick up and handle each pup, individually at least twice daily. Even though they are destined to be guard dogs, it is essential that they trust and love humans. It will also less stressful for them when they leave home. You will know if you are doing it right because in the next few days they will rush happily to see you. Remember at this point that they are just little babies - becoming guard dogs will come much later!

She most likely moved them into the whelping box. Now that they are older she will start leaving them more often and for longer periods of time so she put them in a place where she feels that they will be safe. She may be a first time mom but she operates on instinct and she has done a good job so far.

I agree to leave her den alone. When my rescue cats needed a place to have their kittens I made a box and did what was needed. But momma moved the babies every time I touched her box. it's best to leave them alone and make sure they are warm.

As a long time breeder I would suggest unless puppies sre in danger leave her welping box alongfor at least another few weeks.

When the pups are 3 1/2 to 4 weeks old you can start introducing them to mush . You can use milk replacer or goats milk mixed with water and puppy kibble. Serve it in a large flat type dish. Cora and the pups will love you for doing it.

Don’t change or remove the whelping box! Remember the goats were in the box Cora is cleaning a spot for herself. Put fresh hay inside & let Cora do her mom thing. The puppies are still small and Cora knows how to keep her babies safe.

I would contact a breeder that has raised puppies right in the barn with their animals and get their opinion but I think just let everything as is and let her raise them. She seems to have been a great Mom so far so trust her instincts.

Kevin put vinyl on the floor it will protect the wood. Watch Simply Living Alaska they moved their chickens and used a shed on property. Great ideas and their eggs are always clean. If you watch CogHill Farms Jason and Brooke have an egg system that keeps the eggs clean. Just an idea to see what they did.

I agree don't take down the whelping box. This is a spot where Cora knows they will be protected and safe if she needs to leave them or gather them all together. Cora will decide when she and the puppies doesn't want to go back into the whelping box for a little extra security and protection. Cora let you know when she doesn't need or the puppies don't need the whelping box

I'd leave things alone. If you disturb her she might move the babies somewhere you won't like it at all. She wants with the goats she should stay there cause when the two were guarding she stuck close to the barn while Leeske handled the perimeter. Good job. Everything is fixable.
