The water damage needs to be adressed as well as the electrical box. If owner hasn't covered it up might mean that it's accessed often.

What a sweet couple. I hope they enjoy years of happiness in their new lake cottage. And the realtor was great. She smiled so much that her joy was contagious.

I’m so glad they chose the 3rd house with the little beach! I hope they were able to require the owners to repair and fix the cause of the water damage by the fireplace. May they build many happy memories there!

In the last house all the couple talked about was the terrible carpet and when they were going to rip it out, They did not notice the the electrical box with cables coming out of it over the top bed. Carpet before safety and with two kids.

I can not believe the cost of these homes ..wow. love the second home- so much potential. the 3rd is great - needs a new deck and that roof issue needs attending to but love the fireplace and daybeds plus a beach

Sandra Westley uk, these are not cottages in the UK sense of the word, cottages are 2 rooms upstairs and 2 rooms down stairs . These places are bigger than most uk houses for permanent living. Buying houses is always a compromise nothing will ever be perfect.

Sandra Westley uk, oh the lake was so crowded, dear me, they could see the neighbours boats, big deal. They are not the only ones who want a lake side holiday home.

they are the kinds of people that need to see everything out there, before they can decide, no vision either, all nice places imho

I remember watching this on the now defunct Nat Geo People, Suzanne is my favourite realtor. She is so endearing and lovable - I just loved her instantly. And the babies are too precious.

If you really hate walking into the kitchen, just move the door over about 6 ft so you enter in through the dining area instead

I just found myself tutting and rolling my eyes through out this. They're looking for an ideal that doesn't exist and are utterly incapable of doing an ounce of work on anything, that deck needs a few minutes work, the wood needs a wee coat of paint. I'm truly amazed they actually chose one But did they actually buy it in the end? I found the couple rather annoying, irritating and looking at the past with Rose tinted glasses.... Good luck to them, they're going to need it!

yep, 5 bedrooms only 1 bath..they wanted 3 bedrooms..convert one to a bath..solved

I felt for the realtor. Totally agree. Annoying couple with no imagination.

They should visit their childhood cottages to get a reality check. The sellers should repair leaks and electrical issues and take all their junk out, including the carpets. The only reason they are dark and dated is because they were built ages ago and have been in one family. Paint them white!!! 😅

$400k would pay for a lot of months for a rental summer home. No headaches of repairs, insurance, taxes, etc.

I wonder about that too. Why by something that you will spend only a little time in. Renting would be better for a young family.

Well, this was a bit tough. A lot of commenters were annoyed by the couple, and I was sometimes perplexed myself. I think there are several factors impacting this episode. 1) It can be a tough sell to watch people buying a second home when viewers may or may not be able to afford a second home or maybe even a first one. 2) How a place looks on camera and how it feels/smells in person may not be the same. 3) It is clear that this couple was not looking for a major project. They did seem willing to rip out carpet and paint. I have lived through many home renos and I think it's fair to say that a couple might not want to take on a fixer upper for their vacation home. Every trip to the cottage could turn into a work weekend for years and years. There's nothing wrong with that if that's your thing. But if it's just not your thing, then it makes no sense to do that. 4) Editing can have a HUGE impact on how people come off in an episode. They might say 30 positive things and 5 negative things, but the editing can make it look like they only said 1 positive thing and still 5 negative things just by ... editing. They're trying to create drama for the episode. Producers might even ask drama-evoking questions to get people to say things on camera that they might not have otherwise said. I thought the couple joked around a lot, especially the husband, and that aspect was enjoyable. It's not that the couple wasn't picky- their three-year search says they were. But editing can really impact the experience of watching them visit the cottages. I can't afford a second home, but I sure have thought about it a lot. I've rented enough places, though, that I know I would be just as picky when hunting if I could really do it. -Because I have very strong feelings about what "feels" like a vacation home. One thing I see sometimes that I don't like is a house on a lake that looks like a regular suburban home inside and out, or conversely one that is just too dark and dumpy. My ideal would be many small bedrooms (or some larger for bunkrooms), 2 full bathrooms, large gathering area open to kitchen, large, enclosed porch, openness, airiness, and as little drywall and carpet as possible. Quirky a plus. Alas, I am happy renting such places every now and then instead. Sorry so long. I really got to rambling! :)
