How to play: Pawns: Pawns can only move in a straight line but capturing other pawns,bishops,queens,etc they capture in a straight diangle line. Pawns may move 2 spaces in a straight line when a pawn makes their first move. But pawns may not move backwards they have to keep going forward Knights: Knights, Only Move 3 spaces each turn in an L like shape. The knights may move backwards and the knights and only the knights may jump over your their own pawns. Bishop: Bishop, May only move in an straight diangle line the bishop may move as many squares as they want (diangle) as long their are no pawns of their own blocking them but your turn ends when you either capture one of the opponents pawn/etc or you can't move any further the bishop may move backwards in a straight diangle line. Rooks: Rookies May Only move in a straight line and capture other Opponents pawns in a straight line the rookie can move as many squares as they want in a straight line the rookie may move backward. King: The king is a powerful unit because the if your king gets captured you lose the purpose is to capture the other opponents king. If your king gets checked (trapped) than you have to move to a safer spot where the pawn cannot get you otherwise you get checkmated. The king can move in a straight and diangle line but the king may only move 1 square each turn. The king may move backwards. Queen: The Queen is a very powerful unit she can move in a straight or diangle line as many squares if your queen gets captured then you have a disadvantage if your queen does get captured you either try to capture your opponents queen or check their king.

So sweet Alex! Well done! (for me the best part was that the child remained at the board for the entire twelve minutes!) Alex's dad, make sure you incorporate the following things in his game, the next time- 1. During castling ALWAYS touch the King first; then the rook. 2. The clock should be pressed with the same hand that is used to move the pieces. 3. The clock is placed to the right hand side of the black player (in this game Alex) All the best!

Thank you! very good notes!

It is black's choice which side the clock goes on, so it is generally to the right of black, but it can be to black's left.

That's awesome just to maintain the level of having fun in the game since he is still in a cognitive level called pre-operational stage. If a child is still at this stage, handling competition can be tough. He can not be able to handle defeat so be a little bit extra careful. Well done for this achievement as a parent. Great job!

Its not nitpicky.. its game over.. white lost at that moment because that's an illegal move. The title should be 3 year old beats father in 5 moves. lol..
@zoom2deepak8 жыл бұрын
And you see the baby learning from the father and doing the same thing (wrong) .. i.e moving the rook first.
@zamfent8 жыл бұрын
Who cares? "Under current US Chess Federation rules, a player who intends to castle and touches the rook first would suffer no penalty, and would be permitted to perform castling, provided castling is legal in the position." --en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castling. And anyway, that level of nitpickiness has no place when teaching a three-year-old, because it has nothing to do with strategy. You can learn that rule when you go play in tournaments.

Reminds me how my dad played chess with me in Ukraine. Can you tell me what region of Russia or Europe you are from? Some words you use are in form I've not heard before. Например вы произносите "собью ферзю". У всегда слышал "собью ферзя" потому что Оли ферзь это фигура мужского рода.
@Ort6189 жыл бұрын

Five months? It's a very short time to teach this, isn't it? Some times it's harder to teach simpler things to children. Do you use any method? How many time you spend teaching him in a week? How did you do for he keeping the attention? Sorry for so many questions, but I'm really interested in it. Congratulations for you and for your smart son!
@Ort6187 жыл бұрын
It has been a while ... and yes I used some method, however this method in book was written in Russian language, here is the one: www.e-reading.club/bookreader.php/92134/Suhin_-_Shahmaty_dlya_samyh_malen%27kih.html The main idea that at begging you don't use 8x8 fields, but 4x4. You can find picures there. We played 15-20 minutes daily, and I it was not exactly a chess, but chess games. For example, my son used to setup all figures on board and then close his eyes, and I would mess them up in 30 seconds or so, and then he need to restore an order. Then we switch. So, basically, all kind of games you would be able to came up. I have another video where he plays Chess Solitaire. I hope this would give you an idea.
