Good video! I miss those days of everyday people buying guns at a popular store like Sears, Surgarman’s and Montgomery Wards, it was just a normal thing. On Christmas we would be passing around our new guns during family visits. Everyone was gun comfortable and gun safe, even grandma. Good times. Miss them all! Thanks!

Oz here, I did comment on your previous video. I mainly have shot 150 gn. Hornady bullets in my 30.06 with good results for over 30 years. One of the reasons I always liked Hornady other than they shot the tightest groups was because when I put the on the scales there was less variation between bullet weights than any other projectile I weighed , to me that’s a great start. The other feature I like on my FN Mauser rifle is #1 Low mounted scope #2 High, Weatherby style cheek piece , I have shot a few .30 caliber rifles and have found that if you can get that snug, tight cheek fit it absorbs recoil , the wrong fit there gives the recoil a running jump at your face which doesn’t help at all. In my experience ,(which is not unlimited) flattened primers are a sign of high pressure ,i.e. you are right up there with your load.

Nice Shooting Dave. It amazes me that some folks scuff at rifles labeled Sears Ted Williams . I see them at Gun Shows for far less than Winchester model 70's. Basically they are the same rifle just labeled differently. I would take the extra cash saved and apply it to a better line of Scopes or buy extra Ammunition for it. I have a Winchester Ranger in 270 Winchester. It's great. I would like future videos on the 308 compared to the 3006.

Looking great. Another good shooting old Winchester model 70. Someone made the comment about your scope. Nothing at all wrong with that Elite 3200. I know in the other video, you say you had it for 40 years, but that scope debuted around 1995. That's when all the hype was on better coating on optics, and the rainguard on the Elite 3200 and 4200 rifle scopes was one of the best. They are known for holding zero very well, and were tested to 1000 rounds of 375H&H, to prove they were very durable scopes, as well. Nothing at all wrong with that scope or rifle. Glad to see it's shooting very well after glass bedding. Bedding is extremely important on rifles like this. For those that don't know, it is wise to glass bed your rifles, before the stock splits. Glad you were able to repair this one though.

Thanks Scott for your observations. High scope mounts especially on the AR's is because of the stock configuration and personal preference. As for shooting better, like others I have good days and not so good days as to accuracy and my videos do indeed show those days of inconsistency.

Great video, Dave. Definitely the Nosler BT, either load. That is a beautiful rifle. I remember as a kid, the most exciting time near Christmas was getting the Sears Christmas catalog. They had everything a kid could want. The Amazon of the 1970s. So, I am recoil shy as well due to injuries. If you drew an elk tag, what caliber would you choose from your lineup? I got rid of a HOWA 30-06 a while back. It was an accurate rifle and with a suppressor, actually pleasant to shoot. I got a custom 280 AI and I think that is my ticket for a bigger rifle. 7mm Rem Mag velocities with handloads without all the recoil. Also a + on the 308 comparison.

Would like to see you use stabal 6.5 in the 30-06 . Stabal match in the 308. I have seen with Speer 172 grain impact and 165 grain spbt in the 30-06 do great things like same hole accuracy and no change of point of impact between the two different projectiles. It would be interesting if to see if you can get the same type of results in 06 and 308. Velocities seem to be higher with the bonded bullet with this powder with less powder used even with heavier projectile. 2900 ft. Ps is actually achievable with this powder combination. This makes it easy to back off and keep a load right where you want it. Velocity spread seems to be a bit more with accuracy with this powder. But this really doesn’t matter with ethical hunting within 400 yards. The powder seems to really respond to seating that as far as accuracy goes to getting two different project out to hit exactly where you want them every time in the same spot without point of impact shift. It’s a nice tool to have in the cabinet with this caliber. Just wondering if you could find the same with stabal match and 308. And try match with the 30-06 and see what the differences are in the two powders.

I have not tried StaBall match in any cartridge as of yet. Thanks for your information.

I didn’t see that much velocity spread as you did , more 30 to 40 . Case fill was around 90%. I wonder if more Case fill with match would be a improvement in this with velocity close to 6.5 stabal.
