Nice case! Will it fit a rifle with a tall scope? I just added an Arken SH-4 to my Tikka and the scope is too tall to fit in my case. Thanks for the review.

SPC ii is what the 6.8 should have been standardized as. Honestly if somebody wanted to submit it to SAAMI as something like .270 SPC id be down. We'd get factory ammo that can actually get the most out of the cartridge.

I appreciate all the time you spend with the 243. I feel like it is one of our great forgotten cartridges. I recently picked up a pre 1981 Browning BLR in 243. I can't wait to get it dialed in. I brought it for the up coming grandkids to hunt with. The oldest just turned 3. Need to be thinking ahead. Wife" oh great you are buying guns for the grandkids now". Haha Keep up the good work

Can you do tests with some shorter barrels? Would love to see velocities for 12.5inch and 14.5inch barrels using those 110grain vmax and also would like to see the 76grain lehigh cq 308win rounds which chug along at 4000fps out a 20inch barrel since well youde probably wana use the highest velocity rounds possible in a sbr 308 to achieve the longest possible effective range with the round staying over supersonic speeds. I have seen no videos on youtube wth anyone testing these rounds on sbrs.

Sorry to say I do not own a shorter barrel than a 24" in a 308 Win. I tend to stay with a cartridge/rifle combination that is matched to the hunting of the game intended for the best terminal results. Thanks for the suggestion.

Most people fundamentally don't understand that "energy dump" is a myth. Swift killing is about tissue destruction - which is physiology and not physics. Getting tapped in a parking lot by a car technically "transfers" more energy to the person than an .22 LR to the heart. Which is more deadly? Lighter bullets that blow up kill medium sized game (and humans) far better than the "high BC" slow bullets. Suck it, long range hunting douchebags.

Thanks a lot Dave, great show! As for me 6.5 Creedmoor slightly better (I can hunt with it and try stretched out shots). Practically both of these calibers can be converted from 308 brass and any rifle made to shoot 308 Win can shoot any of these, just change the barrel. Best luck and Merry Christmas!

Good advice. This was taught in spec (special) ops training and rifleman infantry courses and more. I just want to add ONE more detail beyond this. This one is hard to convey with words, but I'll try my best. IF you mount your sling near the front hand. You can kind of wrap the sling and I'm not talking about wrapping all the way around your hand and wrist, but just enough until it's firmly gripping. Basically, when you go to grab the front of your rifle make sure the sling sits on TOP of your wrist then wrap it so that you're grabbing the sling and then holding the sling in your palm and against your rifle then, your SHOULDER ends up bearing the weight of the front of the rifle instead of just your arm and hand. You can do it INSTANTLY if you do it right. It just becomes second nature. You just learn to grab it that way in one fluid motion that feels as natural as grabbing your rifle and it doesn't add even a single 1/10 of a second to your shot. It, of course, requires that your sling is adjusted to the right tautness or tension that it pulls on your shoulder. This then uses your entire core to steady the shot. THEN, for the very minimal, much smaller movement that you have left, you can just these techniques and even if you fail a little on these techniques, you'll still be within 1 MOA (3.5 mil) or less if you're practiced and good. Or 1.5-2 MOA (4-7 MIL) if you're not practiced, which basically means you can make your shot nearly as good as a precision rifle. Meaning, it takes away shooter error because now you've engaged your shoulder, which in turn engages your core and even most of the time your legs giving you maximum control. It's an excellent way to take yourself from a below average/ average shooter to an above average/ excellent shooter with essentially no training. - This technique is brought to you by your federal SOG team, CIA. (CIA'S elite tier-one tactical team. Which if you're not familiar with it, that's no surprise, haha. It's meant to be that way. For those who served in the military, think Delta Force, same concept it was designed on. Take the best of the best from the different branches and combine them to learn from each other to create a more well rounded tac team) Sorry if it's hard to understand in words. Visually, it can be show and taught in just a few seconds for quick visual learners or at most a few minutes for hands on learners. Most can see it done once and become an expert in it after only a few tries. But, it's SO much harder to explain in words.

Yeah its a shame that a lot of the old gun we grew up with are no longer made and if they are their just not the same. I also have a soft spot for the old BARs, i have a .243, a .308 and a 7mm rem mag in grade 2s in the old Belgium guns also have 2 30-06s and a 308 in grade 1 Belgiums. I love the ol .25-06 also my Rem 700 loved the nosler 100gn solid base that they discontinued a long time back, i usef to load that with imr 4359 around 3400 fps i believe. It preformed very well on our whitetail. I sure wish nosler would never have discontinued the solid base line, i used to shoot the 120s in my 7mm rem mag and i loved them, especially for very long shots. Anyway thanks for the video and enjoy the BAR.

With Speer and Federal working under the same roof. It will be interesting to see if the Speer Impact is basically the same bullet as the new Federal Fusion Tipped bullet. It wouldn't surprise me if that was the case. I couldn't find enough information on the two websites showing if the bullets had the same lengths when compared to each other in the same caliber and weight. If they are similar, like the Speer Gold Dot and Federal Fusion bullets are it would make sense with the two brands working together.

Thanks for the video! I do love speed, but I find it easier to correct for distance than I do wind. That’s where heavier for caliber, high BC bullets win. I can use a range finder and dial or hold over but wind is much harder to judge. With that said, I shoot faster twist barrels with heavier lead core core bullets and also lighter copper bullets (Hammer Bullets) so you don’t have to worry about over spinning them and having them blow up. Happy shooting!

Agree for target shooting. For Varmint hunting at ranges under 400 yards, high speed provides a flatter trajectory and therefore time of flight to target is less to somewhat mitigate the environmental factors.

@@davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009 every cartridge and rifle combo is different…I do know in my 25PRC I shoot 95gr Hammer Hunter bullets just over 3600fps and a 135 Berger at over 3100fps. At 400 yards the 95gr is 3” flatter but it drifts over 5” more in a 15mph full value wind. I’m sure other bullet and cartridge combos will vary, just showing that it might not always be true and it may be beneficial to run all the numbers on bullets you want to shoot.

@@jonathanperillo1795 Agree somewhat. But trajectories are a measurable constant if the SD's are low. Wind is too much a variable. For a hunter, a closer shot is always preferable and target bullets (higher BC's) are not recommended. Thanks for watching.

Turning 53 in February 2025. Dad gave me my first rifle in 1981 in the form of a Remington 700 Classic in 243, mounting a Redfield 3-9x40. It’s all I ever had till the mid-90s & took loads of deer, turkey, hogs, coyotes, anything you pointed it at. Never had to trail anything far if at all, certainly no worse performance than my later 270, 30-06, or 300WM. I won’t turn loose of that original M700 for countless sentimental reasons, nor have I handled a smoother M700 since. Added a second 243 in 2020 when I got a Henry Long Ranger & have been astounded at its very reliable 1/2” grouping with 90gr Scirocco factory loads. Great video, also subscribed now.

Yes maybe a bad habit, but to be clear, me not having a military background, my trigger finger is inside the trigger guard but not in contact with the actual trigger. All of my rifles have different trigger pull weights, take up, all single or double stage that can only be offset through my controlled feel of the trigger itself. Bolt action trigger pull is a true brake of the trigger, where bye a AR or MSR style trigger engagement requires a heavier, more deliberate pull, with a full follow through and controlled reset to prevent a double fire.
