Very good comparison. I can't imagine either of these failing to be effective at terminal performance all the way out to 100 yards. New meets old. Thank you.

Great test! I really like the 30 &100 yard testing as it shows expansion in gel at typical hunting ranges. The 100 yard 30-30 impact moved the blocks back harder and expanded more. The 30-30 is traveling nearly 400 feet per second faster than the 300 Blackout

150s in 300 blackout are the worst bullet weight. 125 is the heaviest supersonic load that you should use imo.

This is a very weak 300 blk load

Shot a nice 9 point on my first solo hunt this past year, with a 30/30. The deer was so far in the bush and was turned where you couldn’t actually tell front from back with my old scope, thinking I was shooting at his lung i shot him in the butt bullet went all the way through to his shoulder blade which is destroyed. Deer died a few minutes later. I messed up as a hunter, but the round did the job, and even more so past its best distance. the 30/30 I shot was my dads first hunting rifle too ❤soo many years ago with the same scope. Glad for the mount and very glad the deer didn’t die in pain to my mistake

150 grain is a horrible weight for 300blk. It robs too much case capacity. 110- 130 grain is ideal for proper expansion, and velocity with supersonic ammo. 300blk actually surpasses the 30-30 in velocity at 100 yards because the 30-30 has the ballistic coefficient of a soup can.

I’d love to see more options in 80-100gr. As far as I know the only optics for rounds that light are copper
@TheGrimFoot4 ай бұрын
@StreetLight099 those aren't bad options, however the ultralight 300blk runs into the same problem the 30-30 does with the ballistic coefficient being horrible. Even the 110s aren't great on BC I think a 120 grain designed to expand at lower velocity is the best choice.
@StreetLight0994 ай бұрын
@@TheGrimFoot for 300blk do you believe that BC even matters that much? It was never developed to be a flat shooting precision cartridge. It was never intended for hunting either-from what I understand 300BLK was designed to be an “indoors only” round.

Excellent video 💯 , finally someone compares same grain and brand , I'm on the fence to buy a triple black 30/30 or a Ruger American 300blk as I already have a cmmg banshee in 300blk and a can for any of them , but I'd have too buy 30/30 ammo 🤷

Excellent content!! I totally get what’s going on here. I wish the bullets had been identical. No worries, excellent data.

I harvested 2 deer near Camden, AR this past December with a 300blk, I was shooting the 150 grain Federal Fusion MSR Bonded Soft Point bullets. The shots were about 70 yds, one dropped immediately and one ran off about 50 yds. The one that ran off did not leave any blood trail of any kind. The bullet did punch through, but the exit wound was not substantial enough to leave an adequate blood trail. If that shot had been less than adequate on that deer, I would have never recovered it. 🤷♂ After this, I do not think the 300 blk is an adequate caliber for deer. I have heard that I used the wrong load, and that may be the case, but a 150 grain anything, from a 30-30 would have left a blood trail at 70 yards...

I have heard that the 110 grain is the way to go for deer with the 300blk.
@TheGrimFoot6 ай бұрын
110-130 grain is what you should be using in 300blk. The 150grain robs too much capacity not allowing the 150 grain to have enough velocity to expand.
@Disastrous.Affect6 ай бұрын
@@TheGrimFoot Agreed, but I decided to just get rid of 300blk and use a real hunting caliber, the 308 WIn.👍 I will have a blood trail from that.👊 Not to mention I am off of the blood thinners and not worried about bruising anymore, so even the 30-06 is back on the table.👍
@TheGrimFoot6 ай бұрын
@Disastrous.Affect cheers to your health mate. The main advantage of 300blk is the AR platform, and low recoil for faster shooting. Also the ability to use subsonic ammo with a silencer for very quiet shooting without adjusting the gas system. It's a versatile special purpose caliber
@Disastrous.Affect6 ай бұрын
@@TheGrimFoot Thanks, I picked up the 300blk because I had a pulmonary embolism while on the last chemo I was on, and they had me on a wicked high dose of blood thinners right in time for hunting season🤦♂ So I grabbed a 300blk upper hoping to avoid the almost guaranteed a shoulder sized bruise from my bolt action 30-06. Today I am off of the blood thinners and on radiation, so bruising isn't as much of an issue. But I am hoping I got a couple more years of hunting left in me.👍

.300 BLK seems to be inconsistent. I agree the performance was impressive at 100 yards but would the bullet do that consistently? The .30-30 just looked "right" both times. Both are solid and I own both but I'll take the .30-30 consistency any day over that wily .300 if I had to depend on it.
@joesabedra87923 ай бұрын
Different bullet design. Try reloading the same bullets in each and do an apples to apples comparison,especially test. They are both 30 cal so it’s not an issue to reload.
