How you load the 32 and 30-30 is when you load a shell don't push it all the way inn leave a 1/4 inch sticking out then use the next she'll to push it in and so forth and so forth. Also you should be able to load 6 or 7 in the magazine .

One of my dad's old hunting buddies was a sniper in Vietnam, and he always went out hunting with a 45/70 iron rights. He absolutely despised scopes, but nobody knows why. But he hunted with that rifle for about 50 years until his eyesight went and he could no longer make the 300 yard shots he loved so much
@chadbinette3201
@chadbinette3201 Жыл бұрын
300 yard shot with a 45-70? I dunno how much velocity would be left. Those 45-70s aren't much past 100-150 yards and even that's pushing it. Just such a heavy round it drops so much in velocity and physically. You'ld have to aim 10 feet above the target for a 45-70 to make 300 yards . It's more for close range, dropping power. Alot of guides carry the 45-70 so when a grizzly bear or moose is charging them and they have no choice , it's something that will stop them in their tracks.

If you're referring to resting the barrel affecting the harmonics, it won't matter much on a lever action due to the tube.

@@enricofermi67 You place a spent cartridge in the chamber (do not dry fire!). Next, have a Ranger buddy balance a dime (flat side down) about midway on the barrel of the firearm while you are in a shooting position. Then, with the safety off, squeeze the trigger and let the firing pin hit the spent cartridge without letting the dime fall off the barrel. Sounds simple. With practice, this drill will improve your shooting skills.

From the time I was a young boy, my father had a 94 in 32 Win. Spcl. The 32WS was created because the 30-30 did not have deep enough grooves to use black powder/lead bullets. What I found was the deeper groove setup with the 32WS made for reloading lead bullets FANTASTIC! With 1-10 bullets cast bullets using a gas check, you could run them out as fast as jacketed. Very accurate.
@d.briancasady48
@d.briancasady48 2 жыл бұрын
I reload for all 3 calibers. The .32 WS has a slower twist rate that really works great with 170 grain or close to that weight bullets. The .45-70 and .30-30 do not need any introduction. Great calibers with more history than most will ever know. The .32 WS is an awesome cartridge in its own right, but it just arrived a bit late and was forever in the shadow of the .30-30's popularity. Finding the bullets to reload it is a bit of a challenge, but I buy 500 at a time when I find them. Speer gives best accuracy in my levergun.

When you load cartridges in the side , leave the rim of each round sticking out of the trap a little bit...it will be easier to feed them into the tube.

Try to get your hands on a 94 winchester 3030 made before 1964. The winchester was like the ak of the 1800s. It was/is a loose, clunky action that you cant make fail. A marlin is a lot smoother, but theres something about a Winchester that makes it feel "right". My go to deer rifle is a 3030 winchester and it hasn't ever failed me

@@possumsausage5029 I think the action on a lever action often depends on wear. I have 25 pre-1964 Winchester lever action rifles in various calibers and no two are the same. I have a few Marlin and Savage rifles, a new Henry replica and two Italian lever action rifles. I wouldn't say the non-Winchesters are smoother. It seems to depend on the rifle.

Hey amigo - During the time I served as a Border Patrol Instructor at the Federal Law Enforcement Firearms Training Division they say that we trained more than 70,000 students. With the long gun we trained the students to stand with their head erect and then bring the comb of the butt stock up to their cheek. They were then instructed to pull the butt straight back into their shoulder, raise their elbow and then lean into the weapon. There was a US Marshal instructor at FLETC who was one outstanding shotgun shooter. He could shoot the skeet course clean time and time again even from the hip. I had hunted and shot shoulder weapons for about 25 years at that time and usually only missed 1 or 2 birds per course. He told me to try the above shooting position. I did as he suggested and immediately noticed what seemed to be less recoil. Did my skeet score get better? No, but I definitely had better control of the shotgun. FWIW

Thanks for your work. Really enjoy your videos. On my 12th birthday in 1966 my grandfather gave me his Winchester 1894 30-30 that he purchased used in 1905. Octagon barrel, rifle not a carbine. He said his brother had a model 1894 in .32 Special and that while the .32 was more accurate, 30-30 ammo was everywhere in 1918 in Saskatchewan. .32 Special ammo was difficult to obtain and double the price. 30-30 now considered a deer gun - but in times past was a moose/grizzly rifle. It is easy to reload with .30-30 brass. I load a light charge of IMR 3031 with some cotton stuffed in it to make a blank to fireform the neck. That step may not be necessary, but it saves me a lot of crushed necks. KEEP YOUR AMMUNITION SEPARATE!!!!!! The .32 WS will load into a .30-30 side gate. It sort of locks up your rifle when it refuses to chamber.

Winchester made the 32 special to use black powder because a lot of people didn't trust smokeless powder. They made it a little larger caliber and shallower rifling because of powder fouling.

Let me give you some advice about loading a Winchester.... DON'T shove the round all the way into the tube. Leave a bit of the back of the round sticking out of the loading gate. When you load the next round, all you have to do is press it against the back of the one just loaded, and feed it in.....like butter. If you push the round all the way into the tube, the loading gate closes, and the round comes back slightly due to pressure from the spring, making the next round harder to load because now you have to back the last round up into the tube slightly in order to press the loading gate open. I mean... It works, but it's slow and fidgety, and not as smooth as the method I just mentioned.

Definitely a better round then 3030 at the cost of recoil . It's a bit sharp. not as bad as 4570. if recoil don't bother you 35/44/444/4570 /308 are all good choices for a leaver gun. there are a few other choices available. Pretty much any of the 30+ guns are good, but your going to pay in recoil. From sharp to outright brutal. If you watched the video carefully you can tell that 4570 was working on him, and he was trying to hide it. Been there done that ,that hearts. But don't get me wrong 30 30 is more than adequate for deer in the eastern United States..

Never put a sling on a Winchester lever. They belong in your hand. That's their appeal. I've got the 32 special and the old 30 30. I've got other deer rifles but for whitetail and eastern game it's the old lever I'll reach for every time. They're like an extension of your arm and i love'em.

@@ViktoriousDead I live in the hills too, the ozarks of western Arkansas and northeastern Oklahoma. Maybe your hills are steeper. But if you are still hunting there is no better place than to have your gun in your hand and up front. If its strapped across your back and you get a chance for a shot it's going to happen quick, even if you catch that deer in its bed. If you're going to use it the best place for any gun is in your hand. The 336 Marlin is a bit heavy and the Browning BLR is too. My preference is the old Winchester lever carbine. I've killed a lot of deer with it, some fair sized ones.
@ViktoriousDead

Larry Reese yea I love in the Tennessee range of the appalachians I agree with having your rifle on hand and out when actively hunting. But a sling definitely makes a rifle more utilitarian and easy to carry when walking out to a stand or whatever the case may be

@@ViktoriousDead I agree, especially with a bolt or heavier actioned rifle with a scope. But I always like to go light. Most of my shots are well within 60 yards and in oak timber. Who needs a scope? Who needs the extra weight? All you need is a deer and something that is adequate to shoot it with. It's that simple and the quicker you can get the job done the more successful at it you're gonna be.

I know, your guns, your property, your ammo, your time, your money...and your longest shot you take you said was around the 30 yard mark hunting deer..But wouldnt you like to know that if a Magestic Buck, a "once in a lifetime" type buck came along at the 50 or 75 or even a 100 yard with those rifles....ya wouldn't miss, and if you decided to take the shot at higher diatances, you would'nt just mame the animal to have him run off and die days later 20 miles away? Again, love ya like a brother, and mean no disrespect to you..I appreciate and RESPECT you, and all you do for us Who-tee-who...Btw, I killed a 3 legged deer about 25 years ago...I know exactly what happened, someone took a shot at this animal the very same season I was hunting and did the aforementioned..I was happy to put this animal down as to stop his suffering. Yea...I do have a heart, even when hunting..I never took joy in killing just to kill..Its all about the groceries for my family. To each his own though. Some people enjoy the "hunt", and the adrenaline rush they get when "killing". Uh...yea...no adrenaline rush for me..It hurts my heart if by the time I walk up to the animal its still gasping for breath and/or blowing blood out of its nose...Sorry for the long post. He replied, its his legacy to pass down to his children..I thought to myself, legacy?? Seriously, he probably has almost 30 mounts of different animals that are legal to hunt.
