I’ve applied to ICU new grad positions and hoping to get hired soon so I can get my experience. I also invested in CCRN and PCCN study guides so I get my certifications. Never ever to late ❤❤❤❤

Sometimes I think we underestimate the power of the wisdom and resilience that age and life experience provides. I went back to nursing school at 33years old. Was on top of my nursing class and graduated with honors in my ADN while working full time, being a mother and wife. It wasn’t always easy but I think my life experiences before RN school gave me the determination and resilience to make it through. As she stated, you have to assess where you are in your life, what you are passionate about, and how realistic those goals are for you.

I am a late 30's SRNA student in my first year of the program, one thing I would add to this is please please please understand that this program is going to engulf your entire life, it becomes the sun in your personal universe. If you have young children, please be sure you are willing to give up that time with them and understand that this is 100% sacrifice of having that time and memories that you would have had with them otherwise. This is the #1 debilitating factor for me personally. I went in knowing this, but it still gives me TREMENDOUS guilt everyday. There is no easy program, doesn't matter how smart your are, how much experience you have, the volume of information requires studying that most of you haven't ever experienced. I have several friends in medical school that are in their 3-4 year, and they think the amount of info and skills development Im going through right now is insane. Just to give you contrast, they have about 3-4x the amount of "free time" that I have, the still go on vacation, and have social lives. I have NONE OF THAT. I spend 10-14hrs a day studying, reading, practicing, and this is 7 days a week, I take a 1/2 day off every 2 weeks.

Hi, I am 31 and am getting ready to apply for this application cycle. I have a 2 year old child now and my wife is also a nurse. My biggest worry is the financial stress on her while I am in school and the amount of dedication I will need to study while my daughter is in her prime years. And also having to delay having more kids until school is done. The guilt is gut wrenching and makes me not want to go through with it. But I know the payoff after graduation will change our lives forever. Thanks for sharing your journey.
@thomaschezik9769
@thomaschezik9769 5 ай бұрын
You need to make 10000000% sure that you and your wife are on the same page, its going to be a crazy amount of work and investment because you will be over leveraged by the midway point like most medical students (meaning you'll have pulled a crap ton of loans, and need to complete so you don't go poor), if this is something that truly lights your hair on fire, just promise to retire her after your finished. If you aren't ridiculously motivated and wanting this so badly you can't imagine life without it. Don't do it, lol there are lots of other ways to make money. My wife is a CRNA before I started this and she is even struggling to rationalized the amount of work Im putting in. @@ayitisfinest

Thanks for the video Jenny! As an almost 40 y/o acnp in critical care, I have been mostly concerned about the rigors of returning to academia for crna. I know I can do it but it will be a steep learning curve for sure. Hi Beaurrie! You'll need at least a year of ICU experience before you can apply to CRNA school; then that's three years until you can take boards and become a Nurse Anesthetist. As far as the NCLEX here in the US, you can read up on more information for that here: www.ncsbn.org/null/null/internationally-educated-nurses Thank you for tuning in! Rooting for you!

Thank YOU for tuning in! Glad you found the information helpful. At CSPA we are fully supportive of anyone who wants to become a CRNA-- it CAN happen at a later-in-life age if you do what's needed! I can't really answer if it's "ok" for you to do it yourself, but this article should help you make that determination: crnaschoolprepacademy.com/podcast/episode-99-is-becoming-a-crna-worth-it/ You'll want to determine how many working years you have left before you hope to retire, will you need to take on student loan debt or do you have enough savings to pay for school and more :) Hope this helps get you started-- we are cheering you on!

I heard as an CRNA student, we are not allowed to work. Is that true ? If we are not allowed to work, how do they expect us to run our daily life and pay bills ? Do they pay while we are doing crna residency ?

Hi there! Great question, thank you for asking. And yes, that's correct, most programs do not allow you to work due to the workload and rigors of CRNA school. There are *some* that will allow you to work part time, or for the first part of the program. Most students take out loans to cover both tuition and living expenses; of course, if you know CRNA school is in your future, doing your best to start saving now will help. Once you start as a CRNA, the debt can be paid off ;) Here's a couple videos that will help: How to Survive Not Working While in CRNA School: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gmKnknucjrNgpqc Financial Freedom as a CRNA (Crystal Grant shares how she paid off $200k in loans in record time): kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZLbdn6DqLuVa80 Also-- we do offer our Academy students quarterly financial planning webinars with our expert Financial Advisor; she specializes in Nurse Anesthesia Students and CRNAs so she truly knows first-hand how to help guide our students through this process. I know this is an older video, I had a question in regards to the pathway to CRNA. When you get your BSN and have ICU experience, do you have to get your masters before applying or can you apply right away to CRNA school since its a doctoral program?

I am curious if you're aware of any Canadian nurses who have become CRNA's? I have a BSc in science, then my BSN, critical care certification with 5 years trauma ICU experience at a level 1 centre. I'd love to become a CRNA with the scope you enjoy in the US, but so many states now require a US social security number to get state licensure, and I'm not sure that's feasible if I want the license to become a full time student to become a CRNA?

Hi there! Thanks for tuning in and for your question! As far as getting into CRNA school in the US-- Programs will require at minimum 1 year ICU experience in an ICU here in the States; you'll also need your BSN degree evaluated for equivalency. WES can do this; you can also book a transcript audit with Dr. Ballister. She was a assistant program director for MUSC (South Carolina) for over 10 years and sat in the interview committee. She is very knowledgeable on this area. You can book this service via her service page on Nurses Teach Nurses. Dr B's Services Page: app.nursesteachnurses.com/drb I would do this step first so you know if you have additional courses ahead of you😊 Hope this helps get you started! Rooting for you!

@@Psalm34v7 After graduating from Dalhousie University, Mike MacKinnon (BSCN’01) eventually moved to the U.S. and worked as a flight RN. Then he went back to school and became a nurse anesthesiologist (CRNA), which in the U.S., works the same way as physician anesthesiologists do in Canada.

Hi Anjana! Did you obtain your BSN here in the states? If not, you can have your grade/gpa evaluated and "translated" to an equivalent grade (and you'll want to confirm that your desired program(s) accept foreign degrees). Hope this helps a bit, and thank you for tuning in... rooting for you! 😃

Hi from what I read, if you got your nursing educations in foreign country then you are not allowed to pursue NP or CRNA but I am not 100 percent sure so don't take my word for it. Good luck :)
