Day 7 took the most practice since I've never played a string instrument before. I have short chubbo fingers so not muting strings is challenging; I have to move my left hand in the way you said never to, lol, but I'm sure I'll make it work. I know I'm not the only fat person to ever learn to play banjo. Oh lawd day 8 here I come.

Me too! That D7 is crazy hard for my fat fingers and extra small neck!

I am loving this course, thank you Eli. Such a jump from the guitar but I love this instrument. The fingers pick finally starting to feel right. Thank you for putting the right-hand fingers to use on the tab, that has been really helpful.

I'm having way too much trouble not muting the lower strings with my fat fingers. Not just with the slide, but also with the patterns where I have to play lower open strings while fretting higher strings.

This is the point in the lesson where I had to tape up my bloody fingers lol!

Hey Eli! your content it's great man. Thanks for all the videos with great tips. I just have some questions regarding the time of the techniques. when do you do eight note slide/hammer/pull off and when the sixtinth note? it sound to me that when your playing fast everithing is played as sixtinths. Also, what's the point of the eight note? I feel you can bearly hear the effect of doing the slide//...

Anyone else had problems with finger picks tapping the soundboard (drum part) of the banjo when they are plucking? I'm still getting used to the picks, but I also find it hard to slide with them. I'm just not getting the full sound.
@MasonCroneMusic3 жыл бұрын
That was a problem with me at first too. It got easier over time😁👍

I was just asking the same question the other day at a music store, but they weren't that familiar with the banjo. But yes, my picks are hitting the soundboard.

A little late to the party, you might have already fixed it but what’s been helping for me is putting my fingers lower, towards the bottom. The strings are tighter there than they are up by the frets

This is a lot of pain & stress on my middle finger. I don’t know if my banjo strings are too close together but it’s frustrating to not cover up the second string by accident, even just a tiny bit and it messes up.
@pipski40193 жыл бұрын
Same here, blistering too. Will try arching fingers more and keep at it!
@Haywood_Jablowmi4203 жыл бұрын
@@pipski4019 yeah maybe I just need to build up my calluses. I’ll keep practicing.
@kathycamper13003 жыл бұрын
I am not really having the pain you mention, but I am having a heck of a time with covering up the second string by accident. I thought it was because I am a woman with very small hands. Good to know I am not alone. I am working on the arching the fingers more as well and I have slowed WAY down to try to force them into the right position.
@jakekellie24323 жыл бұрын
I used to play guitar it's normal, I have less stress now I'm learning the banjo doing it. It'll pass dude :)

I tuned my banjo with a Bb instead of B to have minor chords available in the same position as majors, but this is the first lesson in which that is not helping me XD I'm going to try keeping it as I currently have it and only tune use standard tuning if it's really necessary :D

Hey Eli, loving the lessons, very well structured and progress by surprise almost every time! I’m having trouble with the finger placement only my left hand for BTCD, specifically whilst switching between the two main positions. Have you got any drills or advice that might help?
@eugenelayton52312 жыл бұрын
Try strumming just the chords with the thumb pick. i.e. G chord 1,2,3,4 C chord 1,2,3,4 etc. either with a metronome or along with the video. Change the chords along with the tab or video. After you can make the chord changes while strumming then move on to making the changes while playing a simple roll. I'm new to this too. Hope this helps. 👴

Hi, just a question....I have noticed in the tabs that up until today in the last bar with the pinch, the 3rd string was picked with the index finger but now (and in future lessons) its the thumb. Does it matter which one I use? Sorry if this has been asked before!
@EliGilbertBanjo9 ай бұрын
It's good to be able to use both, it'll change depending on the context!
