I just bought the exact same switcher to do multi-cam livestreams. Thanks for the video for showing me some proof of concept. I haven’t set mine up yet but now I know it will work once I get all my cameras set up. I also went budget with my HDMI capture card and it works great for a stream at 1080. I might upgrade in the future if I start recording my stream but for now this is a great low-budget solution for creating a great looking stream.
@computerjantje2 жыл бұрын
Come on be honest and add to or change your comment here. I right away went to your channel to see what kind of videos you could make with a cheap switcher and the first video I watched was done with an Atem mini. So I guess the cheap switcher was not that good after all right? What about all the people watching this video here and get mislead to buying the wron thing. A waist of money.
@JeffRevell2 жыл бұрын
@@computerjantje I didn't use it on my woodworking livestream I used it for my gaming setup on Twitch. And I also said that it was a great proof of concept for an inexpensive switcher to get started with, which it was. I also said I would probably upgrade in the future, which I did. Did you buy the switcher and not get decent results with it? It isn't perfect and no, it's not professional grade, but when you have a low starting budget something like this is a good solution until better equipment can be had. But thanks for checking out my livestreams on KZbin.
@computerjantje2 жыл бұрын
@@JeffRevell I bought not one, but several cheap switchers and they all have in common that, although they say so, they cannot switch really seamless. at least 1 in 3 times there is some kind of glitch. The best cheap switchers cheat the switching by freezing the old image while switching. This means you only have a seamless switch when there is absolutely no action in the feed you are switching away from.

Wish I could give this video two likes... I recently had a "discussion" (more like an argument) with a salesperson in a reputable video store who was adamant that the ONLY way to use multiple cameras, and not use multiple capture cards, is to buy the nearly $500 (AUD) ATEM Mini. My question to him was "What if I use a simple $50 HDMI switcher?. Won't that work?" His answer to me was "it doesn't work like that mate"... and tried his best to convince me that I needed to part with $500. Wish I could show him this video... but then again, he probably doesn't care.

What about the option of having a preview screen for each input before you switch?
@ahumeniy2 жыл бұрын
The only cheap option to have something like that is buying multiple cheap HDMI capture cards, attach them to a computer and have OBS to switch them on Multiview mode. It's arguably better than this setup because you can have proper transitions between cameras or clear cuts

You saved $200 but that makes the difference between let your livestream look professional or just on a low amateur level. OK, when you are happy with this - it's fine. @samuel c.t. chan Normal people just use their mobile phone or a DSLR to stream. In any case you need to have more than one camera, a dedicated video mixer is mandatory. A HDMI Switcher is unprofessionell like cutting bread with a pair of scissors. It might work somehow but it‘s definetively the wrong tool.
@oliverpavicevic53872 жыл бұрын
HDMI switcher can also create many problems. Some cameras will just turn off a video feed. Also, if you connect a coputer and switch a source, it will turn off dual display, and need some time to turn it back on. Atem switcher has a lots of features that are important, and you aren't using atem just for camera switching purposes. To explain this in DJ terms: you can use an audio switcher to cut between songs, but you can't do any real professional mixing with it.

44K views on a total crap video. Where is the world is going to? Besides the terrible unneeded shaky footage you are comparing apples with peers. You say it yourself. "It is not total seamless". Well that is why you pay the extra. I tried all kinds of cheap switchers. NONE does seamless switching. A seamless switch is the absolute basics you need in a multi camera setup. if you do not want to edit afterwards. But if you do want to edit afterwards then you do not need a switcher at all. You can feed the software all recordings. So a cheap switcher is really never on its place. Well maybe for home security. The Atem mini still is the cheapest switcher that does the job as it should and you'll get soft transitions as a gift to it. To prevent someone wanting to buy a Atem mini pro within a month after buying the standard mini, I would recommend to study carefully the differences between the mini and the mini pro. Especially the multiview and the built in stream service makes the extra money for the pro worth every penny.
