For 3 years I was working with the ATEM 1 4k - it's a beast but it too needed all the inputs to be the same or it just didn't want to work. Frustrating but once it was up, it was good. BMD announced the ATEM Mini Pro ISO - it adds recording of up to 5 separate H.264 video streams. I am leaning to the Pro mainly because of the Multi-view - I really liked it on the ATEM 1. Thanks Tom for the walk-thru on this!

Great video 😀 Combine it with Elgato Stream Deck, Companion and macros, you have a really powerful setup. I operate my ATEM Mini Pro, only from my Stream Deck. I have a button, when I start a “show” that will switch to cam 1, , activate my mic, put my computer on preview, start recording, and after 5 sec. put a lower third on screen. When I end the show, I have another button that will switch to a still with my logo, fade out the audio, and after 5 sec. stop the recording. I have a Raspberry Pi to playback video, and great transitions, also controlled by macros, operated from the Stream Deck. I know it is a lot more advanced, it’s just that I’m a Nerd (also a drummer) 😉

Hi Tim, which setup do you use to record the audio of the students?
@timfenton49433 жыл бұрын
@@Minotaurus007 recording Audio depends upon what kind of event we're working. I usually try to get 3 audio recordings for redundancy. Usually we get 1 USB recording off the the digital console we're using. I usually set up a shotgun mic into a camera and do 1 recording in camera. Lastly I'll usually set up a field recorder as a final back up. If we're using an Atem Mini Pro ISO I also get the main recording as well as the ISO recordings all to a Samsung T5 from the USB out of the Mini Pro.

The only thing that would make it better for me is multiview. But this coupled to a Video Assist 12g and Ecamm Live Pro is crazy powerful. No idea how this popped into my feed but glad it did. It’s making me think a bit more as I slowly assemble a streaming / presentation environment. Since it outputs in 1080p only, are you capping your inputs at that resolution? How is it on heat dissipation? My only worry is using this w/ a MacBook Air. I have a late model but I worry about processor intensive accessories and the dropped frames... anyhow, on an info level, this video has been top shelf. Thank you! ✅
@tombuck4 жыл бұрын
Glad you're here! I can't say specifically about how it'd work with a MacBook Air, but in general, if your streaming apps are running ok now, it should be fine. The computer sees the ATEM as a webcam, so I don't think there's a lot of processing power there. The ATEM does have built in fans to help with the heat. I have mine on 7 or 8 hours a day 5 days a week with no issues.

Love this review. It is clear you are a teacher with the comprehensive flow of your presentation. Questions: 1. do you find your rodecaster pro redundant in any way (audio-wise of course) to use together with the Atem mini 2. can you record a streaming session in its entirety and use as a future webinar or presentation 3. What specifically did you use (item) to be able to turn the Atem on and off 4. What advantagges would the Atem Mini pro or ISO offer that you feel the Mini doesn't have. In other words why would one consider either of these instead of the A. Mini.
@tombuck4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words! Here are a few answers: 1. Nope, not redundant at all because of how many audio inputs it offers, plus the sound pads! 2. Yes! I've used OBS to record from the Mini, but the ATEM Mini Pro gives you the option to record directly to an attached USB drive. 3. These are the ones I ordered: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07JW5SDZD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 4. The higher end models offer mulitview output, the ability to record as mentioned earlier, and a few other "pro" features. They're awesome- I just didn't need them for my workflow and wanted to keep things as simple/inexpensive as possible.

Super concise and fun (!) review and great editing. Thanks! In your experience, what's the most stable, foolproof solution if someone (say, me) would have to solo-livestream workouts on KZbin? Asking for reliability because I can't be close to the camera and PC to check if everything is going well while doing the workout. Just plugging a (good) webcam into KZbin Studio? Right now, I have my partner doing it for me (Sony A7III into Elgato HD60 S+ into OBS Studio into KZbin Studio), and it works fine most of the time, but there sometimes are hiccups like OBS "forgetting"/losing the camera and needing to reset it while streaming (or same thing with the Rode Wireless Go, where again only switching cameras back and forth helps), which I wouldn't be able to take care of if I were doing it solo. And second question if I may (thanks a lot in advance): The only way to mitigate the fact that the ATEM Mini doesn't play video is to connect a second PC, right? Right now I have a countdown animation in color keyed in OBS. It doesn't seem like there's an easy workaround to achieve the same thing on the ATEM. Again, thanks a lot for taking the time to read this or even answer.

The best feature of the Mini Pro is it is also a hardware-based encoder. You can stream to YT, FB and Twitch natively as well as RTMP CDN's. Yep! I’ve done this several times myself with the ATEM Mini Pro and Extreme for 11 cameras 😁

Hi Tom. The biggest problem of atem mini is provide only a single source through USB. I would like to have 4 independent source in my ECAMM using the atem mini as a capture card. The only solution is 4 cam link 4k (very expensive)! In case of an interview (podcast) is impossible put side by side controlled by ECAMM
@tombuck3 жыл бұрын
Yes- that's the biggest hurdle. There's really no way around needing 4 capture cards for 4 sources. The CamLink Pro isn't cheap, but it definitely gets the job done and works very well.
@camilloaugusto3 жыл бұрын
@@tombuck Beside that is impossible to use for example in a Mac mini, laptops and others. Only in a desktop which form Mac is complicated. :( Would be nice a CamLink Pro USB ou Thunderbolt

Thanks so much for the video! Question : how can I bring in the stream outside callers that need to participate to the stream ?
@tombuck3 жыл бұрын
With the ATEM, the only way would be to connect another device via one of the HDMI inputs. However, if you're using something like Ecamm for your stream, you can bring in other people pretty easily through the Interview feature.

Yes! Just signed up to you podcast list.... Knew I would be able link in with you! Atem Mini or Pro? Which do you think just for a podcast? I think the mini will do for now
@tombuck3 жыл бұрын
If you need the ability to use multiview and see all of your angles, or to record directly to a hard drive, then the Pro is the way to go. Otherwise the base model will have you covered.

amaizing thanks for sharing, I do have a question. I want to have dslr quality video for streaming but the cameras are further. What can I use to get that video feed without having long cables? Thanks in advance for your reply.
@tombuck3 жыл бұрын
There are a few wireless options out there, but they can be quite expensive and the reliability is usually a bit spotty. Sometimes a long cable is the best way to go. 🤷🏻♂️

Thanks so much for a lot of practical info, I am a preacher from India and in India. We don't have all this stuff easily available. I just got an BlackMagic ATEM MINI. How can I make computer monitor into a multi view monitor, since I cant afford to buy a multi view monitor and they are not available here yet? Regards-David Amar
@tombuck4 жыл бұрын
Hello! The basic ATEM doesn’t have multi view (which is fine with me), but the “Pro” version has it.

Excellent review. There is many models ATEM Mini, ATEM Mini Pro and ATEM Mini Pro ISO. Pro model can stream Live, ISO model can help save all different camera streams separately.

They're all awesome- I just wanted to go with the least expensive since I'm only doing basic switching. I also know myself, and if I'm spending $600 or so on a higher end model, I'd eventually end up getting the $2000 overkill version that I absolutely don't need. So this protects me from myself!

The Atem mini is great. I used it to film a multi-cam meeting with a bank and was able to just have it on the floor below my tripod and tap the buttons with the tip of my shoe. It almost eliminated the need to edit. All I had to do was use the in camera footage for sections that I was not happy with

I really wish this switcher / the software would support ndi inputs. I really want a full ndi switcher. I have been using the meevo start cameras and loving them thus far. The fact that they are wireless, have ndi, have built in battery, have eptz in the app, can be used as webcam, record on device, no hdmit out though

If you want to take it up a notch you can look into the ATEM Mini Extremw ISO. It has 8 inputs and a lot more functionality built in. And most importantly, it has a million buttons which are very fun to press.

Love how easy to understand your show’s content. Are you planning on chatting about the Atem mini pro extreme? And maybe if you can chat about bringing it video to your show. I’m planning a show that will have clips of the guess content to reference. And current the atem will not let you have pre recorded clips to fire off during your interview.
@tombuck3 жыл бұрын
The Extreme might be too extreme for me, but keep an eye on Aaron Parecki's channel because I know he just got one. Who knows though, maybe one day I'll get one! As for video clips, I handle that sort of thing with Ecamm Live, which works really well.

What do you have for the most versatile guitar foot pedal (cheap) for a Spider 2 Line 6 amplifier..?

Hi tom, quick question: i have an A cam and a B cam in my studio. The A cam has the rode NTG shotgun mic. The B cam doesn't really need a mic as long as I can use the NTG on my A cam, since i sync the audio in adobe premier. But i want to use the atem mini to do switching between the 2 cameras and record to my pc using OBS. How do i get my A cam's audio to my PC?? Over hdmi? Will i have mic audio if it switches to the B cam??? Thanks so much Tom!
@tombuck2 жыл бұрын
THat's a good question! As long as "AFV (audio follows video)" isn't turned on for that input, your recording should include the audio from the NTG. If not, you could always run the NTG into the mic input and give that a try 👍

@tombuck4 жыл бұрын
You can add PNG images to the Media Pool in the software and then bring them up. You can even add "macro" sequences to automate things. But for the sake of simplicity, I usually use Ecamm for my graphics.
