I think oats and probably other racers forget that map rando wasnt supposed to be for racing Meaning multiple paths is fine until you learn your way as learning logic is fine when not racing. So the system works. If you just play and not race. Adding the competitive nature to a random element like this just breeds toxicity when the "better" player cant keep up and just assumes the others got lucky because they hit the jackpot path. But thats why random people enter these races and not try to race the wr holder every week ya know? Love oats and the other racers just my observation and opinion. Trust my sm knowledge is just from watching these guys lol

There is not enough cheese in the world for all that whine. (I joke, I joke) You win some, you lose some kid, the name of the game is take your pick. You could give all the reasoning in the world about this or that and why you should take this route and not that one but in the middle of it in the heat of the moment you pick what you pick and you stick with it. Does it always make sense? Fuck no. But it is what it is. These are supposed to be fun, and i get it when shit works out. This way, it takes away from the fun factor. Regardless of the choices you make, you have to stick and roll with it. I know it's gonna piss you off. Others will finish before you because of 1 simple choice, but that's just the way things work sometimes, man. This coming from a man that has WATCHED MANY HOURS OF RANDOS ( Yours in particular) bu5 has never once played a map rando nor do i intend to. I mean fuck look at the stress this puts you under. But man just relax its all for fun, smile my man its not that bad.

You should play some. I’ve never done any SM speedrunning, and had beaten the game maybe 3 times in my life, but always loved the game, and playing randos made it fresh and fun all over again. I started with easy, then medium, and now can do hard comfortably. I don’t do the races (in part because I don’t have a setup to stream / record which is required), but I can typically complete them in less than 2 hours, and it’s a ton of fun. My brother does some of the races and coached me through some of the tricks as I learned, so that definitely helped, but I loved doing the randos and go back to them periodically. Highly recommend. They’re only stressful if you want them to be.

Yeah, see your experience is about the s a me as mine with the game, I grew up with the game, adored it as a kid (39 years old for the record) and I would love to give it a shot. The randos seem like a ton of fun. I would never want to embarrass myself with streaming, but I would totally be down to give it a go and have some fun with the game. I get the itch to do it everything I watch the races. One of these days imma give it a go like fuck it what's the worst that could happen lol.

@@jamesbaker6006 yeah I’m 34, so my early memories of the game were watching my big brother play it, then I played it myself when I was a bit older. To this day, Metroidvanias are my favorite genre of games, so SM was formative for me. Starting with easy difficulty is the way to go. Easy / tricky / tame. Helps you get a sense for how to navigate the maps before worrying about learning tricks. You basically just need to know how to wall jump. Don’t be shy about using the rando website and spoiler maps in your early runs to help learn the tricks too. It’s really satisfying, and I picked things up way quicker than I ever expected. It’s such a good game and they really did this map rando right. One of the best game mods I’ve ever seen.

@baseballgenius3 Hell yeah, I am definitely gonna give it a try, man, like I have been wanting to, and this talk made my mind up. Thanks for the encouragement. I greatly appreciate it. I'll start out on the easier side and ease myself into the harder difficulties. Who knows, one day we could end up racing together, thanks, agian man gonna give this a shot!

@@baseballgenius3 I'm 34 too, used to stay up late and help mum play. Always had to spin jump for her because she couldn't do it, lol. Hadn't touched the game since then until recently when I started watching Oats. Finally decided to give the rando's a go. They are pretty fun and east difficulty isn't hard to a point you can't do anything even if you haven't played in years. I play on a little Anbernic handheld most of the time which probably isn't the best but does the job.
