Dude, I want you to know I spent all day watching this one video, taking notes of every one of them, all of the locations, and then gaining a description of each one of them so I can go to myself. It gave me a road map and I appreciated. Dude I want to know. I spent no less than 8 hours watching a 28 minute video.

So many memories were brought up watching this! My dad used to swim in the quarry holes “back in the day”, and that drive along 37 is so familiar. My dad and I went on The Lost River Tour 2 times, and they were both well worth it! I even met an awesome photographer from the Star News while on one of the tours, Rob Goebel. I was familiar with both his and another photographer’s work at The Star, but Rob had “the photographer’s eye”, a true gift. The other one had technically perfect photos, but they just didn’t sing to the viewers like Rob’s. I subscribed so that I can be notified when Part 2 comes out (you know you gotta do it now!). You have that Tom Bodett vibe… might even cop your own catch phrase… something like “See you next road trip… I’ll leave the engine running. “ or “See you next time… I’ll bring extra snacks!”

My folks were big on Indiana road-trips, and it’s something I’ve always enjoyed. I’ve become a walking encyclopedia of places to see, as I’ve been exploring this state for decades! I remember being at a drive thru, and a young kid saw my KZbin hat. He asked what kind of channel I had, and when I said it was about Indiana, he said, “What’s there to do in Indiana?” He honestly didn’t even know about the showcaves and other attractions, just minutes down the road, from where he was. Hopefully these videos will help people find great destinations, not far from home.

I grew up in Southern Indiana, and most of these I have been to many times. people that dismiss Indiana out of hand are really only hurting themselves. there are SO many beautiful and fun places to visit. My sister and I have both put several pairs of old shoes on that Shoe Tree. I have swam in the Empire Quarry. so many of these brought back a lot of great memories of my childhood, thank you for making this video

My sincere pleasure! I enjoy bringing back good memories and encouraging new road trips. I was once at a New Albany drive-thru, and a young kid asked about my KZbin hat. “Do you have a channel?” When I told him I had one about southern Indiana, he said, “What’s down here?” The kid was working near over 180 attractions, and didn’t know one of them, not even the show caves. But there’s a good reason for that. Families don’t do road-trips like they used to, and the state of Indiana focuses most of their tourism dollars on Indianapolis. Hopefully people will catch some of my videos and see more of this wonderful place! 🙂

My 2nd cousin is 92, and remembers the big to-do they had in Bedford, with the Joe Palooka statue. She said it was placed by the highway, but people were taking pot shots at it! When they moved it to Oolitic, some significant restoration had to be done. He isn’t as beefy as he used to be!

It really does feel like youre in the Florida swamps,in Indiana. Ive been to Patoka and that area many times but dont think Ive been to that Bigfoot. If you visit West Baden certain times of the year,you can catch a baseball game where they dress in vintage baseball uniforms and will play a full game . We caught in beginning of November one year. Thanks for all the cool places to see not to far from Cincinnati where I live. If you want to see an even longer historic covered amish bridge head to Ashtabula Ohio it’s 613 feet long 😮
@AdventureswithRoger
@AdventureswithRoger 10 ай бұрын
The Ashtabula covered bridge (Smolen-Gulf) is relatively new, built in 2008. The folks at Medora maintain that theirs is the longest HISTORIC covered bridge in America, as it was built in 1875. But,the Cornish-Windsor in New Hampshire was built in 1866, is 449 feet long, and still a little longer. The correct thing they should market it as: Medora is the longest three-span covered bridge in the United States.

Hello & thanks so much for the fun lil road trip😊 I live just a few miles up the road from the jug rox. But had no idea about some of these roadside attractions?! Huge rubber duckys, Bigfoot and geodes (sp?)galore ,oh my! I discovered a few yrs ago that atleast some of the water that surfaces in Orangeville, comes from the Karst system directly under my feet! We have well water from 210ft below surface & thru 180 of limestone! I only assume the water we use is from the same system that surfaces later. It could be from a separate aquifer too, I suppose?? At any rate, thanks again for taking us along with ya 😊 Looking forward to what you have in mind next. Much love from Lawrence co❤️

A road-trip always brightens my day, and there was plenty to see on this one! My folks grew up in Lawrence County, and I’ve spent nearly a lifetime fascinated by the cave systems and legends. Nearly every seasoned caver will say: “there’s probably a huge one, we just don’t know where yet.” I’ve no doubt that the discovery could happen anywhere in the area!

@@AdventureswithRoger Oh for sure!! We've lost a lil of our farm to sink holes over the years. But compared to some in the area. I'm not grippin at all😉 The story of how blue spring caverns were found is kinda sad. Really sad actually. Mr. Colglazer (sp?) couldn't find some or all of his cows one morning. However, he found a huge opening into the caverns instead. Our family has a pond story. Years before I was born in the 60s, one morning my great granddad went out to feed/milk/etc the critters. He heard a horrible sucking sound down over the hill. He went running and could barely see in the dawn of the morning, the pond sucking into the ground, like the draining of a bathtub. About 3 football fields away, the pond popped back up in a low spot! In my early 20s, that 2nd pond drained and I assume, popped back up in the Hoosier Nat. Forest somewhere, as the forest is next to us?? Thx again & have a great day ♥️

I’ve spoken to several people from the grottos, about what’s known. Divers have went down the Orangeville Rise section, and measured it at a scary ten stories deep. It then snakes into a watery, silt-filled abyss too dangerous to explore: even with good lighting, you can hardly see your hand in front of your face. The agreement is that the cave system could stretch untold miles long, and might go incredibly deep. Always filled with water, the depths will likely never be known. What is known, is that it’s approximately 26 miles from where water comes up at the Orangeville Rise, to where the Lost River disappeared through small siphons in the river bed. Incredibly fascinating! At the Wesley Chapel Gulf Section, it’s not always filled with water, and people have explored a fair amount, going south until it also sinks into a watery abyss. Dye tests show that the water eventually exits at Harrison Spring, the largest spring in Indiana. Just truly an amazing, mysterious place!
