Hey Josh! I live out in Tucson, Arizona. My buddy Tavian and I lift with one of your old lifting partners, Paul Leonard. He talks about you a lot, I love watching your videos. It's cool to see how what you say relates to what we do too! Thank you, and hope you're doing well.

Hey Josh are you holding a bottle of beer at one point in this video lol. I did a variation of this routine today, I'm older (50) so I keep my reps strict and controlled. Rack pulls 6 reps 30 seconds rest 6 mins of runtime next wide grip pull ups 3 reps 10-15 secs rest 3 reps narrow grip pull ups 10-15 secs rest 3 reps chin ups 10-15 secs rest repeat 10 mins of run time next tank pull with 30 foot rope (similar to a sled except it has wheels) push to reset repeat 6 mins of run time finished sweaty mess of baked upper back. As extra torture I'd done arms yesterday with giant sets not the best plan!!

Looks like fun. Will give it a try. Speaking of humbling workouts, I tried the JV 8 protocol with farmers handles this week...did 8 picks, carry on the last one, drop it, 1 pick and carry etc. After the first set, I was all "what did I just get myself into" haha. 6:31, grippy and horrible, but you know, in a good way.

Hey Josh, love your content, but please tell me why you used a smith machine on rack pulls? Is it because it won't bend the bar? Lol thanks

Way easier to set up with clusters, less cumbersome

Wow. Great workout. In 15 years of Strength Training i´ve never done anything like this!I have just one question concerning the Pull-ups: Did I get it right: it´s 3 sets with 4 reps and 15 second rest including mechanical drop sets, that means wide grip, chin grip, neutral grip?
@jailhousestrong7 жыл бұрын
Yes once you fail at wide you go to chins, fail at chins and go to neutral If you can hit wide the whole time--stay there

@boandlkramer89357 жыл бұрын
Awesome video! I got a question on the cluster type sets. You stay pretty far away from failure on those first few clustersets, which seems pretty interesting to me. Do you think that going near failure is needed (or highly beneficial) for strength and muscle gain? And also, how would you do these things when youre trying to take more of a powerbuilding perspective? I love low rest, and I wanna give these clusters a try. How would you do that? Something like 15x2 with short rest?
@jailhousestrong7 жыл бұрын
Absolutely it is just more toward the end. The initial effects of have some training effect but to maximize gains by the end you have to be right at the failure threshold. For powerbuilding what would work well is do the main lift first and heavy (full rest then hit the accessory in this style) Thanks for the kind words!
@boandlkramer89357 жыл бұрын
Josh Bryant No, thank you. You have one of the most interesting and informative channels, and you take your time to answer these things. That is so nice of you. I hope the channel grows and gets the recognition it deserves. Have a great day!

I've been training upper back every other day for the past few months and haven't ever felt like I wasn't fully recovered. On back days I'll do a full back workout, and on non-back days I might do as little as 4 sets, sometimes 8, occasionally 12 sets of upper back. Lower back is a different story, every 4 days can be too much for me. Upper back and quads can handle a lot more frequency than lower back, hips and hamstrings. I think you are one of very few people that recognize this and work around it.
@jailhousestrong7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Erik. I think you are spot on this, different muscles recover at different rates! I appreciate your support and you watching the videos--have a great weekend

So this may sound like a crazy question. But I just started lifting and honestly can’t do pull ups like that. What could I substitute for it?
@jailhousestrong7 жыл бұрын
Either band assisted pull ups, pull up machine (to get assistance) or lat pulldown
