Founded in Rome in 1575, the Confederation of Oratories of Saint Philip Neri is a Catholic society of apostolic life for priests and religious brothers who live together in a community bound together by no formal vows but only with the bond of charity.
The Philadelphia Oratory is one of 86 Congregations of the Oratory in 24 countries. It was formally established by Pope John Paul II in 2,000.
Here to explain the relationship between St. Francis Xavier Parish and The Philadelphia Oratory is Father Georges Thiers, C.O., who has been a Catholic priest for 54 years.
In addition to being a priest of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, Fr. Thiers is a member of the Congregation of the Oratory of St. Philip Neri and is provost of The Philadelphia Oratory which he co-founded 34 years ago.
