If you put cling film, or packing tape or similar plastic on the faces of the clamping cauls, when you come to remove them, it won't damage the faces of the plywood.

Really enjoying your vlog, working up a sweat just watching you. On a practical note does the boat yard have showers, you can use?

A bit late to say now, but for anyone else doing the same job, water-based PVA can be thinned down with water to make it easier to apply & soak into wood, although it will take longer to dry as it'll need a second coat

Where are you going to stack the flooring when you paint the bitumen on especially as it takes so long to dry?
@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt4 жыл бұрын
martin worrall mate - literally figuring that out right now !! Hoping it won’t take too long until touch dry, then I can stick on that underlay stuff and lay it down - it can dry off in position I reckon

Quick question. Is there a reason you didnt use marine ply for your flooring. It's made for use in damp areas and the glue used to stick the layers together is also made so that it doesnt de-laminate under damp conditions.
@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt4 жыл бұрын
Alan Lifeson proper marine ply is nearly impossible to buy - the stuff you can is an overpriced version of what I’ve got once I’ve treated it. Honestly, most marine “grade” ply is far from marine grade and needs treatment in the same way. This’ll last 10yrs easy, marine ply maybe 15
@AlanLifeson4 жыл бұрын
@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt I know what you mean. I used to work at Malden Timber (20 years ago) and we had some big problems with Beech faced hardwood ply when it gets slighly damp. I suppose like you said proper marine ply is hard to find and it's quite expensive.
@emmageear62654 жыл бұрын
As I understand it the difference between WBP & marine ply is that marine ply must be whole sheets & be knot free whereas WBP can have patches inserted to make the ply layers complete & knot/damage free. WBP is much cheaper than marine ply.

Are you putting inspection hole in the floor
@tinkeringwithmark11864 жыл бұрын
You might as well add the 8" piece of floor batten to the pieces you added. Lol!

Separating the glued together faces at their edges will damage the vaneer - it will splinter, crack and look raggeddy....

Should have put glitter on it, you can't use PVA without glitter an essential thing you've missed there :)
@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt4 жыл бұрын
Claire lol. I don’t think I’ve ever used PVA before without one of my kids and a shed load of coloured tissue paper and paper plates !!

Those ballast bricks will be a heat-sink and help keep the boat warm in winter and cool in summer.

Don't you think that the floor when you get it all down is a major milestone , quite a effort , you should sit down when you have swept it and feel a bit of pride fella.

I am crossing my fingers that you are not going to lay those boards down without bonding bitumen paper on the underside. Otherwise your laying a sponge floor.

Wondered why you chose to document this all and broadcast it. Must be a hassle filming it all as well as doing it. You should deffo have negotiated screwfix sponsorship of some kind.
@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt4 жыл бұрын
james cooper because I wanted to do up a Narrowboat and the series that I did watch didn’t quite cover it all - warts and all and show everything - for the lay person - that’s what I’m doing. To be honest, the main reason why I did it is because my mate who is poorly couldn’t join me on the boat to help cos of COVID and so I documented it for him
