Yeah they mainly eat dead animals and pieces of meat that are already been torn off of a creature, I watched a episode or River Monsters where Jeremy got into a pool full of piranha and he didn’t even get bitten once, so you don’t have to worry too much about them.

My parents have 2 full grown oscars and they are some of the coolest fish ever. They are really particular on who they let care for them. For example my mom can pet them and even hand feed them and they dont bite her but the one time i stuck my hand in there they werent havin it😆 thank god i have quick reflexes.

I had a pack of red belly piranhas a long time back. I was told that when you put a group in a new tank (or maybe make a new group by taking some from a larger, original group) that they fight to the death to get rid of any weak ones, but they keep one that is slightly weaker than them and they use that one as a scout to test the food before they all eat it, dont know how true that is? Have you ever noticed if it's the same piranha that always takes the first test bite? Not sure how you would distinguish between them though?
