I had a juvenile size electric eel in the late 80’s with (2) Brazilian Redtail Catfish in a 500 tank that all got along well. The cat fishes got zapped once and never bothered the eel. I ended up giving the cat fishes to the national aquatic center due to their massive sizes.

@@luzifersohn5010 they would likely use some wood or rocks, but really unless he has a way to put things in without putting his hands in, he's kind of screwed now unfortunately, some people do use PVC pipes as well, but wood and rocks would be preferred in someone wants a natural setup. Maybe he could create a cave outside of the tank lure the eel to one side with food then drop it in with a rope or something before using something plastic to remove said rope, just to keep the bottom of the tank safe and ofc himself. If he did it externally before adding it would also mean you could silicone it to be extra secure.

Your supposed to put the fish in a bag of water transporting it, then put the bag with the fish in it in the tank so the fish doesn't go into shock. The water in the bag will slowly adjust to the temperature of the tank and then you let the fish out of the bag. It's pretty much a standard when dealing with fish.

Might be a cool idea, a room with a tank that runs all around the perimeter of the room. The fish would have loads of room to swim around then.
@Reptile_Gecko
@Reptile_Gecko 11 ай бұрын
That could be cool, plus each corner could have a bit of a current to help force a bit of movement so a fish doesn't just sit in the corners all day, but also helps lessen the chance of corners becoming dead zones and helping keep the water nice an aerated and active. As well as working out the fish a bit when they choose to go against the current as some do naturally swim against the current at times.

I had 2 of these back in 98-99 when I lived in Venezuela. The bigger of the 2 was about the size of this one. I was shocked by the smaller eel and it felt like 110v, but one day I was cleaning the tank and had my arm fully submerged up to my shoulder. I would keep my eye on them, they would mostly sit on the bottom and come up for air once in a while, but I didn't notice the big 1 swim straight up and across and touched my upper arm. I open my eyes and was on the ground about 3ft away from the tank. Not alot of time passed, but I just had no idea how I got on the ground. Be careful with that. They turn pale white sometimes, kinda freaky, something to do with charging or discharging or something.

Electric eels can locate their prey using electroreceptors derived from the lateral line organ in the head. The lateral line itself is mechanosensory, enabling them to sense water movements created by animals nearby. The lateral line canals are beneath the skin, but their position is visible as lines of pits on the head.[38] Electric eels use their high frequency-sensitive tuberous receptors, distributed in patches over the body, for hunting other knifefish.[2]

So, story: There was a show called River Monsters, with Jeremy Wade, and he was investigating electric eels. Wound up visiting with an indigenous tribe, and they had a ritual they put their hunters through before going out to hunt electric eels. And... ... they could walk right into the water and PICK THE FISH UP BARE HANDED. The 'shocks' didn't hurt them. At all. He had no idea how that worked, but there you have it - picking up electric eels bare handed. It's nuts.

I'm sure you'll get quite a charge out of keeping this fish. 😂⚡ Now hook up a voltage meter to the tank.... 💡 Invest in some long plastic tongs in case you ever need to go in after something. 😏 The only thing cooler you could have put in there would be Ice...🤣

Make sure you secure the cover completely as you would a fire eel or other fish that can easily accidentally escape any open tank while exploring or looking for food or better habitat. Good luck!

I like all the "electric-type" name suggestions like Sparky, Amp, or Voltaire... But to me, he just looks like Neil. Neil the eel.

2:39 Rubber DOES NOT ground you (that's how you GET shocked.) ... Rubber insulates you from BEING grounded. (this is why you ground an electric fence with a 3ft+ deep conductor, like copper)(3ft+ b/c the moisture in the ground is what "grounds" you.)

You dont wear the gloves to ground yourself dude. It's to insulate you from the eels electricity. Not mention a person using themselves to ground electricity, means it passes THROUGH YOU, ie) electrocution, and cankill you. Dont make things up to sound intelligent, it does quite the opposite.

Those damn things kill me every time I go down the Amazon Trail. So cool. Eels are so dope. Morays are some of my favorite fish to swim with. So intelligent, inquisitive, and just mesmerizing. These things are fascinating.

What a "lucky" eel to be in the wild and then gets captured, put in a small glass box (width smaller than his body), eat dead shrimp "for now" and then switch to fabricated pallets. Dream life. Imagine an alien captures the author and doing the same to him.
