I carry the Shield 9 Plus, and in the summer I have a 13 round 9mm mag, 14 in the gun, and a 15 round backup equalizer/ shield plus mag. So 29 rounds of 9mm HST’s. In the winter with sweatshirts I carry two 15 round shield plus mags, aka 31 rounds of 9mm HST’s. And 9mm still packs a bigger punch even in wound channels. 30 super carry did surprise me however so maybe with future advancements in ammo technology, we’ll see it do even better, but then again those same advancements can happen in the 9mm cartridge as well and well.. then 9mm would still perform better. 30 SC is no slouch though I’ll give it that, I still wouldn’t change from 9mm though, it’s tried and true and proven and makes damn sure if you hit your target, they go down. 30 hasn’t been as tested in the real world yet, citizens are kinda the initial testing ya know? Sadly it’s gonna take deadly situations to know how effective it really is against a threat. Don’t think it’ll dethrone 9mm anytime soon for that reason.

Interesting ride down memory lane. Given the lack of manufacturers not named S&W, I may be interested in this caliber if and when more manufacturers compete in this caliber and also when there are more ammo manufacturers getting into the game. It seems that Federal is dropping the price on the 30 Super Carry as an enticement, and have also seen the Shield 30 Super Carry being offered online in the $250 range. Despite how attractive that may seem, I have a number of 9's and 380's along with plenty of ammo and just don't want to start up all over with a new gun in new caliber which might not make it long term. If I don't feel a 380 is adequate, then I'll just carry one of my 9's and call it a day.

This round seems like it would be ideal for compact and perhaps subcompact designs. I would say more for compact designs where having a few extra rounds when you are often limited to 6 to 8 rounds. 10 or 11 rounds would be nice. Also another consideration for compact designs is the lighter recoil. Since compacts tend to be harder to control in the fact that the grips are smaller, (esp those with larger hands) this should make follow up shots easier.

It’s exciting to see a new pistol round, the 9mm Luger has been around for almost 120 years. I hope it’s commercially successful. It’d help to have more varieties of host pistols and carbines available. If companies like PSA, Glock, Sig and CZ embraced it,,,plus import ammo coming into the US market to drive competitive pricing bringing it to similar prices to 9mm. Until those things happen it will won’t be successful.

I am impressed by the 30 SC and would love to see more companies adopt the round. I also would like to see more ammo companies making variations of defensive bullet designs in this caliber. I run Fort Scott Munitions 125gr TUI subsonic 9mm as my main defensive load and would be interested to see how a 115gr TUI 30SC stacks up against it. I have stated in other forums that 30 SC is the next evolutionary thing for the Micro-Compact stack and a half pistol segment allowing for Glock 19 & 17 capacity in a firearm that is 1/3 the size and roughly 5/8 as heavy. Now consider this for a moment if you were to chamber an honest double stack M&P 2.0 in 30 SC it could quite possibly become a 21 round capacity where it used to be 15 and then a 23 round in the 17 round configuration maybe even more. I am curious what the advantage would be and can you imagine what it would do for race guns that offer 20 plus round mags in 9mm, or what a 9mm 33 round Glock fun stick would now offer? I am also curious what advantage it would provide in a single stack like the 43X or Shield 2.0 compared to its 9mm counterparts. I am hopeful and definitely intrigued. Thanks for sharing.

Personally I think 30 super carry is a step in the right direction when it comes to handgun rounds. 9mm 40S&W 45ACP even 10mm are not breaking 2000fps so its not causing a permanent stretch cavity so all you are doing is making a slightly bigger hole in your target. that is why shot placement is so important in pistols so I would rather have a smaller round that i can put more holes in my target.

I still like and carry 9mm but because the 30 super carry penetrates deeper and doesn't the same damage as the 9 mm and of course 3 more rds in a flush fit mag and I now carry the 30 super carry shield plus most of the time . I am a big fan of this pistol and cartridge for a concealed carry gun.
@mohawk33712 жыл бұрын
If it really does have significantly reduced recoil/muzzle flip as compared to 9mm, then that, together the extra capacity, would make me inclined to carry it. Particularly as the Shield Plus is already one of my carry guns. However, most reviewers are not reporting any perceptible reduction in recoil, or muzzle flip. I'm also concned about reduced durability, and parts wear due to significantly higher chamber pressures.

30SC is right on time for the micro compact, high capacity trend. It's better than .380 and you can cram a bushel of them into anything remotely concealable. Who cares if it's slightly less powerful than a 9mm when, in a gross motor skill situation, the lighter recoil means you can dump a whole mag in an area the size of a tea saucer?

@Codiea2 жыл бұрын
And that decreased penetration is because of the expansion. If the 9mm had only expanded slightly larger than the SC then the penetration would have met or exceeded the SC
@keepmahaney74122 жыл бұрын
I agree. In a self defense situation the 30SC has way too much penetration. 9mm does significantly more damage overall by belling larger in diameter, and is less likely to over-penetrate.

Any ammunition that is NOT used by military and law enforcement is good news for civilian markets, as long as civilians understand the importance of ammunition diversity. Meaning, good luck finding affordable 9mm if a major war breaks out. 30 Super Carry can survive if it made by manufacturers who only have production lines for civilian ammunition (e. g .30 SC, .223, 22LR, .357/.38) that will NOT re-purpose those production lines for military ammunition (e.g. 9mm, 5.56, etc). However, the average pressure of the .30 Super Carry cartridge is 52,000 psi, which could be a safety issue in pocket-size firearms that were designed for 21,500 psi (average .380 ACP pressure).
