Hi Antionio. I'm a native speaker of English. I love your vids. You do a wonderful job. This video was really good, but I take exception with your explanation of "take care". It is used as a replacement for 'good-bye' but it's not just that. The phrase "take care" is also a bid for the other person to be safe, to take care of themselves, to go cautiously through what ever they're going through at the time. Just my two cents! Keep up the great work! Lisa
@mmorais83
@mmorais83 2 жыл бұрын
Agree. It is sad in the end of the conversation, but you generally say to someone that you know and care about. It is also frequently followed by a 'bye' afterwards: "take care, bye". In Brazilian portuguese we also have the same expression: "se cuida, tchau".
@LearnAcademicEnglish
@LearnAcademicEnglish 2 жыл бұрын
@@mmorais83 I agree with you both. We use it as a replacement for Bye but usually when someone needs an extra wish for good health or safety or something like that. For example, I have a student right now whose family is going through some really difficult times. Today when he left the classroom, I said "Take care" instead of "Bye."

I don't think that Antonio's purpose was to explain all the possible meanings of this phrase. He just brought an example of how it can be used in a less obvious way. We all know what "take care" means, but we might not know that it can be used to say "goodbye".

My english is very poor, but i believe thats make a sense. My story coming: i must confess...when i saw your some video at first time...i thought to myself: ok, another ,,master english teacher¨ speaking about english words, phrases and pronouncing...after roughly 10 - 15 lessons... i made a huge mistake... and shame on me...You are absolutely Fantastic, with capital F. I never seen someone speaking so enthusiastically, reasonably and with a desire to help others. When you explain something, your body language (expressions, hands gesture and voice tone) it fits perfectly. Keep going, high class job with to teach us. So, thats my ode to you :-) At first and mainly: I Apologize to You Antonio. Petr from Prague

Hi Antonio, I want to thank you for the videos! I live in Costa Rica and I work in a multilingual company, for me has been hard to fully develop my English skills because in this country, simply there is no advanced classes and if you find them, they are no good enough (my personal experience), so at some point you get stuck, with you, I found what I needed haha, those things nobody teaches you unless you live or interact with a English native speaker and I'm always looking forward to continue learning. Off course in my job I've learned a lot, however my customers don't always give me feedback because they don't want to hurt my feelings (according to them 😂) . Thanks again.

Taking on "idioms" is a great pick! That's richer - than language in a strict sense. In a bubbly mood: it might be interesting to hear about etymology, anecdotically perhaps, or in some contrarian or deviated way. "That said", "that's rich" might in fact serve as an example for what I'm aiming at: it may be "just the opposite", namely poor in a sense of "not much" (thought over) - but we "all" don't want to say that .... you get the point. It turns out that that's another good trait of your presentation: you declare and mark the irony. Isn't it fun to learn about irony that does work? --- Jokingly, "I hope": "Tell me about it" means "Don't tell me" in German: "Wem sagst du das" which does lead me on to you: Piu anchora, molto di piu da sua parte, Antonio: tell me more, even more. One cannot get enough although it's very rich already.
