Hi Fonnie, the information you provided in this video is extremely helpful to me because when I bought my first few Hoyas I wanted to trellis them but soon realised they would take up too much space besides that they kept falling over due to the light mix in the pot. I want to transfer most of them to self watering in either leca or Pon. Thank you so much for creating this very interesting video and happy hoya growing.

This certainly does not feel like a "long" video, because it is sooo interesting. I have very much needed this type of information. I've already watch it 3 times this morning. I can't get enough of it. Thanks SO Much for making this one! And, being a newish Hoya 'addict', I am totally SUBSCRIBED.

Imo the best hanging hoya is Hoya Memoria. Just looks beautiful. I bought one about 2 years ago. It is doing so well, growing steadily and reliably and is an eager bloomer. Looks bushy on top and drapes down in a very lovely way. I don't have near as many hoya to compare it with as you do, but I do own Wayettii, Krohnia, Rebecca, Heuschkeliana green, David Cummingii etc and none of them performed very well. But the Memoria is thriving. Speaking of David Cummingii: if you trelis it, the leaves get much larger than what you showed us.

Thanks for the tips for Davidcumingii! I’m exploring DIY ways to make nice trellises, will try Davidcumingii out when I figured out what trellis to make 😀

This is one of my favourite videos so far. It is almost impossible to get big baskets of Hoya where I am from and so it is si helpful to see yours. Two extra questions : 1) Do you find some hoyas take longer to push out new leaves if you let them hang? My Thompsonii is like that and I gave up growing it hanging because of it. 2) How do you acclimate your hoyas that you take out of the Milsbo and let grow in room conditions? Many of my Hoyas that have made that transition have lost leaves and vine tips and really grow so much slower outside the cabinet. They go from 80+% humidity to 20% and they go into shock. How do you help your plants make this transition in your environment?
@tfyfonnie
@tfyfonnie Жыл бұрын
1) All of my Hoyas grow well “free style”, ie without a pole. You mentioned your Thomsonii stop growing when you left it growing free style, in my experience Thomsonii no.1 growth booster is humidity. It stopped growing when I leave it in room environment, but grows very fast in humid condition. 2) no, I don’t transition my Hoyas from Milsbo to room environment. I normally wait until the roots to be fully rooted and many leaves grown, then I put them in room environment directly. Most of the time it’ll take the Hoya 1-2 months to adjust and push out new growth, but normally there’s no transition issue. Would be best to do this transition in spring time, so the room environment naturally has more light 😊

Hi Fonnie! Very informative. I figured the thick stemmed heavy leaf hoya could snap if I put in hanging baskets such as kerrii or Obovata for instance whereas the Dr Ibok has large leaves but they're lightweight. I have my hoya Chelsea in hanging basket. It's such a pretty hoya and underrated. The krohniana silver is very pretty. I hope to try one soon. Thanks for sharing! Dee, New York
@tfyfonnie

I agree! The thick stem heavy leaves are not the best as hanging plants since they aren’t that flexible 🙈 hope you can get your hands on Krohniana soon 😊

Great video as usual? i love the detailed information u give. Do you notice differences in rooting (if they root easily) according to wheter it's a soft or hard stem or thin or fat stem?
@tfyfonnie
@tfyfonnie Жыл бұрын
Yes I do! For green stem, it’s generally easier and faster to root. For wooden stem, especially the thinner ones, they are more tricky and easier to rot if the substrate is too moist.

very informative video as always Fonnie! people been saying that if you wanna trellis hoya, we must wait until the growing tip can always face upwards or else that particular tip will die off and the plant will branch off somewhere else. What is your experience on this? ❤
@tfyfonnie
@tfyfonnie Жыл бұрын
Thank you! 🌸🌿 I don’t have much luck trellising Hoya as even when the grow tip is fully matured🤓 in my experience when I disrupted the Hoyas’ growth pattern (ie. mounting it on a trellis), most of my Hoyas stopped growing. Mostly it will push out new growth point and branch out after 1-2 months🤔 it could also be my trellising skills being poor😅

@tfyfonnie
@tfyfonnie Жыл бұрын
Tusen takk!

@@tfyfonnie tusen takk for tilbakemeldingen!

How do you put the water indicator in the plant? Do you have something at the bottom? Tia
@tfyfonnie

Except from the ones using lechuza pots, I don’t use water indicators as those don’t work over a period of time in my experience, roots grows into the bottom of the indicator and the indicator is not accurate anymore 😅
