Correct. Falling Frontier is a solo developer. He reportedly had to stop work for a while for personal reasons, which is why it got delayed so long.

I've been following you for a while, and i gotta say I'm glad you don't do the 1-30 videos with numbered names even if you timestamp. scrubbing through one of those top X or upcoming Y games with no direct titles, is such a PITA. i understand having direct titles ruins your watch metrics..but I'm glad you make it viewer friendly with links and all!

Man you are making a great job showing those kind of games which don't get much attention. I am really into grand strategies, sandbox, simulation, space, physics etc .... For example there is a game which is exactly what people wanted Universe sandbox to be like, called SpaceSim by Pavel Ševeček.

Cool list! Lots of them wishlisted now. I find it amusing that they're making Lunar Lander Beyond. The old Lunar Lander game and clones were pretty basic games of landing your lander without crashing and/or running out of fuel, never was a huge fan of those.

This video is an interesting coincidence as a couple weeks ago I was looking for space games on Steam and ran into the same problem with the tags. I was hoping searching for something like Space + Flight would work but a lot of games were missing one or both tags. Bunch of tags you would think are useful like Spaceships and Spacesim but a lot of games aren't tagged right. Can't tell if Steam users are tagging the games wrong or if the developers are at fault.

Users make the tags, as far as I understand the devs don’t really have any control over them. I’m not really sure how to fix it, there are already “space” “sci-fi” and “space sim” as tags but they always seem to be used interchangeably

@@Nookrium devs can add tags as well and there's some sort of weighting system that should let them decide the 5 tags shown as the priority. Only the top 20 tags are shown to users and I believe those are used for the search. I wonder if users mis-tagging bungles it up and most devs just never take a look at them after release.

Starwisp Hyperdrive is a game everyone should check out. Its like a mix of Starbound and Ostranauts. It went into early access last week

It's very multiplayer focused now but some sort of multi-mission mode and the campaign is being made and i think that's when ppl not interested in multiplayer can sink a lot of hours into it.

One thing you might consider, even not new, is the latest X3 free DLC, made by Egosoft (now back to pure Indie status after flirting with 2K) X games modders. For those familiar with X3 it may not be to their/your taste, but it certainly makes things a lot less 'gamey' WRT faction relationships etc

I think that the lunar lander beyond is based on the classic Lunar lander arcade game. Don't know how they will expand that game out much, but I am interested to see.

You should do a side-by-side comparison of Startship Simulator versus Space Engine. I think Space Engine would win, due to providing a much better understanding of the mechanics of the galaxy, but don't let me spoil it for you.

Starship sim demo is not finished yet. It is qiute empty and the ship is unfinished. There are no npcs either so you have to do everything and it is alot of coming and going. There is also nothing to do.

one game you might not know of is "Ascendance" its kinda like stellaris but more numbers and better graphics. im in the devs discord and he is promising alot of cool features and honestly i mostly believe him

Wonder why "everyone" (not literally, but it sure feels like it) is compelled to add supernatural elements to their sci-fi lately? To be fair, Ostranauts is what bothered me the most - I want just that sort of game but without the supernatural elements! At least I have Falling Frontier *and* Homeworld 3 both releasing just before my birthday, so that's the kind of problem which I prefer to deal with... ;-)

Someone may be more knowledgeable about it, but I suspect it all has to do with funding- they simply can't get enough funding to make the games without it anymore...

@@Kyle-lx7xo yeah makes sense, but very selfishly I'd rather not know anything about a game and be surprised by its release, than get hyped and forget about it for the next 8 years. There are so many cool early access games I bought, played on day one, shelved and their final release years later just passed me by because I had moved on.

@sbef 100% agree... at least in my case I don't have much free time and I don't follow games too closely as best I can to keep some "mystery". I bought xcom 2 recently for$5 on gog and the space empire series for $4 so im not exactly up to date on games.

One space game I think you've not checked out yet is Stationeers. Hard core survival station builder, it's been out for around 6 yrs but had a pretty rough launch. They have put consistent work into it over the years and I can now genuinely recommend it. It's probably the most detailed "systems" like game there is, atmospherics are simulated very well including even phase transition as of this year. The sound effects are exceptionally well done as well.

Thanks for the work -Could not say I found anything there apart from "Mass Horizon 2". I really don´t understand why it should be so hard to be a bit more open to space games, given the "Terrible Waist of Space" that pops to mind - sorry Judy Foster for destroying your insightful one liner. I hate Turn based games, Fleet commander games where you do not feel your in space at all. Same with grid based, playing cards and grindy games. My experience after playing nearly every space game out there (I´m 69) are those classics that you can still go back to today. My first ever space experience was "Marathon" which was out 1994! Well if you want to have a real experience, then it would have to support VR and it´s hard to find anything to top No Mans Sky at the moment, that game caters for so many player types, whether building on a planet, running a whole village or building a modular solution on a giant mother ship with a fleet of others. I know they have increased the number of private ships now. Yet the game is truly my main reason for buying VR and PS5 in the first place. Yet now like to play on the PC as the flight controls match up with my Thrustmaster perfectly, when I look down in the cockpit at my hands, that is where they are. People underestimated "Planet Explorers" when it first came out, yet that is a classic too. You can design any craft or work horse to do and go anywhere. You are stuck on one planet, yet with powerful aliens and having to barter or mine very deep for recourses makes it amazing. Imagine, you scan the ground and see resources miles below, their are caves or not and you can dig by hand or build diggers to make roads that slope down. You find giant caves flooded and maybe have to build a sub to reach across, so it goes on. A fun area to explore and animals that look more alien than many games. I could keep writing here, yet like you, waiting for a decent space game is like hoping for that decent horror movie that never comes. Yet due to AI, I think we will see much more diversity in both terrain design and mission conversations. Each coming area will be different each time and VR will always be an option.

Very interesting, Nook, but I'll probably be playing Starfield for the next century. :) PS. The 1.0 version of Planet Crafter comes out April 10. But although that's set on an alien planet, it's not really a "space game," I guess.
