It was obvious B was Leica glass from the first image. That said, I enjoyed the look of the Jupiter 12. I shoot with a Jupiter 8 on my rangefinders and X-E3.

Love the Leica hot takes! Steve Lacy (RnB musician) calls using the tools you have access to doing the bare maximum. Great thing to promote on KZbin especially with gear being the pinnacle of achievement on most channels. Happy holidays

Cool video Jim. I totally back you that Leicas and the lenses are a luxury noone really needs. But in the end it's an investment. I like the idea of investing in stuff you use on a daily basis and you really enjoy using it. The good thing is. If you need the money back you can sell it. But in the end it's not the camera or the lens. It's the person behind the thing. The equipment is just the tool to get the picture. What's most important is the picture. Take care and hopefully see you soon.

I bought a Jupiter 12 a couple of years back to go on my friend’s Bessa which I was using for a day. I use it now on my M6 and the number of shots where you can see the edge of my finger 😫 it’s a great lens though. I just need to adjust when using it. Also... I bought a UV filter and this helps adjusting the aperture 😊

Funny hack for close focusing. However, I'd like to say that there are close focus adapters for both of these mounts. Thanks for the video)

Does the Jupiter 12 mount to the Canon P with no issues ? I’ve heard the silver does not and the black does ? Or is that just bologna ?
@quietamericanreed3 жыл бұрын
That could be true- my black one does not mount and I'm pretty sure it ruined my other rangefinders I tried it on

@@quietamericanreed good to know because I’ve been eyeing one, all this amazing voigtlander M glass makes me want to get a dang bessa though. But there is some amazing LTM lenses out there I gotta try first.

6:07 oh no, my secret identity is revealed, I am NOT Bruce Wayne! :) Just as a reference (not trying to downplay the essence of what you're saying): When I bought the lens (it's a Summicron version IV) used price was about 1300€-1600€ish in about 2015, which was already higher than the time I was craving for one in about 2012. Looking at ebay prices now it goes for 1600€ when you're lucky and more towards 2000€, so yeah in principle it has gone up and won't get cheaper I guess. I also experienced the high price of gear to hinder yourself in experimenting. You take lesser risks with expensive gear, you babysit it more, you leave it in the house more often. This may (!) result in taking worse photographs or even none at all. So you just have added another problem to the concept of taking pictures (overcoming yourself, manual focus lens, educating your photographer's eye, calculating the best exposure settings in your head, etc.) and improve (if you want to improve). Nowadays I try to put the fun back into photography and not becoming such a tryhard. ps: nice music, I see what you did there. ;) Edit: 15:20 The M6 was about 1300€, which was also higher when I looked first (in 2012 about 700-1000€; in Japan around 1500€). These prices have also hiked even further. So "no worries", not 6000$ but "just" 3000-4000$ round your neck. "shoot" away! :)

you've only got yourself to blame for the unmasking, I never said your last name was Wayne- cats out of the bag now :)

I like the look of the Jupiter 12 but I believe it won't work on your Canon P due to the rear element protrusion right? The reason I ask is that I also have a Canon P...Merry Christmas...

That's exactly right- You have to be careful otherwise it will but up against the shutter

I love the video and the subject matter. I have to admit the Leica summicron shots were better. I don't own any Leica lenses myself, but have shot with both the 50mm and the 35mm summicrons. I do, however own a Leica M3 and have Voigtlander lenses on it. I do thin't Leica lenses are far superior and worth the price they sell them at. You get what you pay for, just my opinion.

i wanted to do a video talking about how jared polin and then many other photography channels talk about how important it is to get glass/lens and dont worry about the body. while it seems leica users buy the body (leica) - and then buy the 3rd party m mount lens ignoring the leica lens haha. seems to be the opposite but with good reasons of course. just find it funny :D
@TheBigNegative-PhotoChannel4 жыл бұрын
We can also talk about how every time something happens in the movie world, Jared makes fun of how all the movie hipsters cling to their old cameras and how silly it is because it's not 1990 anymore. What a jerk.

@@TheBigNegative-PhotoChannel I only reference him because he's the person that really promote the idea of buying lens over camera bodies. Though i wont deny that he does seem to speak a very narrow perspective in photography. Certainly a full frame Elitist as well talking down apsc any chance he gets. But ill leave it at that - my original comment was a different topic.

@@JayGrapherTh That he favors lenses over camera bodies is the only good thing about him. He once did a photo critique round with the photos he took when his mother died. He is an absolute wreck of a human being.
