Some of my fondest emories growing up were from Jack fishing sessions right up the little creeks in Redlands.

Haha lovely stuff, brings back memories of sand crabbing before school out of Manly, we had a little 12ft bonwood dinghy with a 8hp Chrysler. We would get around 40 sandies in a couple of runs with 8 dillies and go around the neighbourhood selling them for a dollar each, was around 40 years ago.

Hi folks, I'm new to this channel and fishing in general (At least in Moreton Bay anyway). Can someone tell me why you would need a $5000 Furuno 295 Fish finder if you already have a $5000 Garmin 8412xsv?, wouldn't the Garmin do the job in finding fish?

Hey mate, well it depends how into fishing you want to get, you can buy a $500 sounder and get the job done. But we also fish offshore a lot in 100+m of water and that where I like the Furuno for finding fish while travelling at high speeds etc. the Furuno has a 2kw transducer, while I use the Garmin for maps, structure scanning, bay work and relief shading.

@@_OuterLine Hi Adam, Ok mate, thank you for the heads up :). I will mainly be doing inside Moreton Bay fishing, Currently living in Victoria Point, in the Redlands. Looking at a Stessl 630 Coastrunner at the moment, and just need to know what I can fit on the dashboard, and what I actually need on that dashboard. I had a 5.5M Sportsfish up in Cairns for years, used to take it 30 miles out, but am getting older now, and have never really fished Moreton Bay, so I am a complete novice. It is a logistical nightmare working out what to buy, (Including setting up the boat), but I'm getting there :) I may look at just getting the Garmin 8416 like you have for now.........................Cheers for the advice, Gordon

When are you two going to have a go at catching Spanner crabs? They are reputed to be the best eating and not hard to catch
