When I turned 62, I had severe health issues and truly thought I was near life's end so I took social security. I will turn 79 next year, because I had excellent medical care and some innovative surgeries. Am I sad that I took social security so early? NO. I made the best decision I could at the time.

My husband had a very physical job. We decided that he would take his SS at 62 also. He says it was the best decision he's ever made. i will probably run this business for the next 20 years (if thats in the cards) so there will be money coming in! I think you made the right choice for you!

My in-laws were over savers. My mother-in-law only enjoyed 6 years of retirement and even then, they still didn't spend money on things they could have. 7 years later my father-in-law died, but I remember at one point he told us that he thought it was great that we made sure we enjoyed some of our money to travel and wished he'd done more of it. I have zero regrets about our travel when we were younger, I'm now unable to travel much, neither is my husband, both due to health issues. If you can afford to do it, I highly recommend not waiting because there are no guarantees of anything as we age.

I stopped being a wage slave at 59 1/2 (Nov 2019) and lived off my below-average savings until 62 to take SS. I do not have a mortgage or debt, and I live off of SS alone now. I do not buy into consumerism anymore and have mostly no-buy months (since last Nov) whereas I pay fixed expenses and prop/school/local taxes.

Thanks for your reminders and info. Frugality is a way of life. My husband and I discuss all purchases and it helps us focus on needs vs wants. When you work hard for your income, why waste it? Little things add up. Yesterday I was floored by the cost of canned tomato soup so I compared different options--ended buying a can of herb flavored tomatoes on sale. Throw in the blender, heat and add a bit of almond milk and croutons I make out of old bread--great lunch. Just an example of frugal living. We can afford to buy the canned soup at 4 times the cost and store bought croutons but would rather save those pennies!!they add up and help fund our fun activities--camping, thrift store shopping, festivals etc.

Pardon me for commenting to you, but I must tell you the fact that you always share excellent words I've been checking your profile to see your lovely pictures, I hope u don't mind me intruding on your channel. Your name popped up as a suggested friend, and I couldn't help but feel compelled to connect with you, I don't want to over step any boundaries, so I thought leaving a comment here would be the respectful thing to do. If u are open to it I would absolutely love to have you as a friend! If you feel comfortable, could u please permit me I could tell you what I sense. I lost all my food in the refrigerator and freezer because of the storm. When I went to the grocery store here in my home town. I wanted the family pack of chicken wings. It was almost $20.00. I asked the butcher could he help me with the price. He said okay. When he bought it back to me he put a sticker on it that said, $14.00. I said Thank you so much.

Hi! Sarah. My husband and I are currently doing estate planning and it is Definitely higher than $250.00. We have been saving for it, and can finally take care of a very important matter.

Sara I live in Newfoundland Canada and my husband and I did estate planning/ wills last week with Lawyer and was shocked but it was no 250.00 . My total for my husband and myself was 2558.52. Thank goodness I had it saved.

@@Larissa-iw5wy we originally did our wills in 2013 with a Notary in Victoria BC Canada. It was a total of about 750. But it was never completed. Our daughter had moved to Newfoundland in 2010. I know we want her to look after things because she’s much more reliable. In 2022 we moved to Flatrock Newfoundland and now all 3 generations in one house. So even after the move I found the previous will and wanted it checked here. It’s alot more in depth.

Hey, how exiting for you to go to Europe. A little hint for saving money: don't bring your personal hygiene products like shampoo or deorant etc.. It is much cheaper to buy in Europe, especially in Germany. Enjoy your trip. P.S. bottle sizes are much smaller, but they have the same content. It is only less packaging.

That truly sucks, it's so stressful and dark BUT be stoic. Two of my lifelong sayings.....'This too shall pass'............and 'The pendulum swings both ways" ,. We've had to deal with some incredibly stressful times where we nearly lost our house after decades of hard work, and that would have been a small blow in the rest of what could have happened!! It's a long story. We just ploughed through, making changes where we had to and adapting to our 'new normal' and over time the pendulum HAS swung back. This is a crappy blip in your life, not the rest of your life. Sending a hug from Oz!!

The average cost of estate plan lawyers is $1,000 - $3,000, not the $250 you referenced. In California, it's $2,000 - $5,000.

It takes on average 12 years to recoup the ss money you lose put on by not drawing ss early at 62. Do the math folks. Many don' t live much past 70.

My husband did the math. We both started taking our social security this year at age 62.
@kathybreton45702 ай бұрын
I started collecting at 64.5. I have only utility bills, taxes, phone etc. I have enough money to live on and I have saved quite a bit over the years. I have been driving 20 year old cars and saving money. Some of the people I was working with the last year were buying new cars. They couldn't afford the registration fees in our state which is 5.5 percent. I am still saving money out of my ss check and investing in in Treasury bills along with previously saved money.
