Nice little history on the Sportage! I remember the generation 1 pretty well; we had a local dealer that sold them. They sold pretty good for the first year or so. It was cheap, roomy and used by young families. Great video Matt!

You can see the influence of the original Toyota RAV4 in the Sportage and the fact that is a body on frame design really emphasises that. I know that compact SUVs are everywhere these days, but at least Kia were there at the start and have the heritage to deliver a good product in the current day. Excellent video Matt, but then they always are!

A fantastic video Matt, a Fantastic multi test, think for me I would have a Mark 1, Mark 3 and a Mark 5, it's amazing to see how they have evolved in the last 30 years and makes me feel old to think they were launched when I was 10!

I live in Virginia, United States, I was actually looking for a sedan because SUV prices are crazy, luckily I see an almost new 2022 Sportage on the internet, in North America the 2022 model was still the old generation. I go test drive it and fall in love with it, I never thought an SUV could be so fun to drive and at such a good price.

Very well done Matt. The Sportage family all together. I've had a soft spot for the Sportage since I saw a MK1 but the brand was not that well known back thin. Roll forward some decades and like the sister brand Hyundai they are as popular as ever. I've yet to drive one though let alone five. A brilliant video of the history of a great car Matt. Many thanks for sharing.

That's incredible that the Sportage has been around that long! I still remember when they first came into my home market in 1996 and its styling reminds me of the original Honda CR-V. There are very few left now where I am and I recall there was one with a lift kit and big off road tyres, as well as a base model two-door convertible version similar to the Vitara that was offered in the US market. It's amazing how sophisticated and luxurious they have become now and I didn't even realize there had been as many as three different versions since the Tucson-based one came out around 2005/6.

Thanks for great video 👍 I have 2013 Kia Ceed 1,6crdi wagon, yes it's little bit plasticky, doesn't have much power, or isn't so good and quiet to drive than some other. But it have been so reliable, economical, warm at winter, cool at summer and it just works and works, doesn't matter is it +30 or - 30 (Yes, I live In Finland 😄). That's "premium" for me, that car just works and doesn't cost stupid amounts of money to do brakes or tires... I think next car could be Kia too 🤔

Matt a great video very well done and amazing to be able to get all generations together and chart the progress of them and cars in general they have certainly grown up and have so much technology now which not necessarily has improved driver engagement and enjoyment My uncle and his brothers sold Hyundai in Wednesbury Roy Peplow and Co when they came out almost in rovers backyard and were popular for cost and also build quality and spec and Kia has evolved from those early days building budget cars to some great cars they make now well done!

I've got a mkll XS 2.0lt diesel auto, I looked at a mklll first but didn't like it very much. At first I wasn't sure what to make of it but over a couple of years it's grown on me quite a lot and I now really like it. The build quality isn't very good and the paint on it is very poor, also the auto gearbox isn't great either and at best it will do around 30mpg. So why the hell do I like it? I like it because somehow it just suits me and it's actually fun to drive. Seating position is great, it has plenty of room for anything I'm likely to need it for and it's pretty well equipped. Despite it's downfalls I can find much more that I like about it than things I don't. Would I buy another one? Yes I would, but only the mkll.

Actually you would surprised ro find out the the feel of the materials in the MK 4 are no where near as nice as the MK 3. The MK 3 had lovely soft touch dash materials as good as anything you would find in a mk 5 and mk 6 VW Passat but the MK 4 Sportage plastics are not as nice and neither are the MK 5 Sportage ones. A pity. I agree with a poster above the MK 3 Sportage is the sweet spot it's the best one second for me would be the MK5 and third the the MK 4.
