$300 A Night Japanese Hotel ♦ Ryokan & Kaiseki Dining

What's it like staying at a $300+ a night hotel in Tokyo, Japan? Today I give you a tour of the Ryokan and Western style rooms at Gajoen. For brunch and dinner, we check out restaurants on the ground level. We try Kaiseki (traditional Japanese multi-course meal) at Tofutei and Tokyo-style Chinese dishes at Shunyuki. On our first night, we stay in a spacious modern room. For the second night, we are transferred to a traditional Japanese style room, but end up moving to another modern room. Why? The slots are for air ventilation for the tatami mats, fusuma doors, and wood so they stay temperature consistent and not crack. But also for specific room directions/ occupancy and fungshui also

My friends and I booked a ryokan with kaiseki and it was the best experience ever. We were super late in checking in because we took the wrong train and realized that the ryokan was in the mountains and we couldn't find a taxi to get there. We walked like a mile with our luggage before we could find a taxi. Once we got there, they still allowed us to eat kaiseki (which was served in our room) and were super welcoming. Our room was facing a forested area with a hot tub and shower that was freaking outside! They even served breakfast kaiseki style the next day. I at everything and all the leftovers my friends didn't eat. They even let choose a yukata to wear (but didn't show us how to tie it...)

The slips are to allow the flow of air. Because the building is made from organic materials it will get musty very quickly if air doesn’t flow properly.
