do you mean the system that does this to people dioesn't make sense, or do you mean Ali's statement doesn't make sense. For anyone thinking the latter: The conversation about the prison stuff starts with him talking about that in order to survive in prison, a person has to become violent.. From everything I have heard, both from people who have been inside of higher security prisons, and the stuff I have seen and heard online, that seems to be true. That is how a person becomes enured to violence in prison if they weren't already on the way in. It has to be, or the person becomes a perpetual victim, which is way worse in that environment than on the outside. As an aside, in a ghetto environment, this is more true as far as physical violence is concerned than in a financially wealthy environment. Also, if one expands their understanding of violence to include other types of victimization (financial, social, etc victimization, which are absolutely forms of violence), it is clear that this pattern of victimizing those who can't or won't fight back is incredibly common.

Ali tells a chilling tale around the 1:32:00 mark about nearly murdering a prison guard. And to a civilian who has never dealt with incarceration it may seem like he is a violent crazy individual. But to anyone who has dealt with incarceration, as decent a human being as they are going in, incarceration changes people. Mr.Joey and Mr.Ali have been through a truly horrific experience and have come out as performers who want to help people. Until you have been in this situation you would not understand the reaction these men have to certain things, but be happy they can provide comedy despite the terrible past they have had to deal with.

Basically he found out Mitch was working the gate at a different building he could get to by helping move something, but his two close friends found out he was gonna kill Mitch so caught up to him called his name and Mitch locked the gate to that building so Ali couldn't get in but he knew if Ali got in he would have died that day and Ali knew Mitch knew he was gonna die that day had his friends not caught up to him
