It's an unfair competition because the 300$ shoes are meant for long distance and any surface but spikes are meant for sprinting and only on the track. If you do think it's fair, just imagine doing the same thing but in the forest, which is where the 300$ shoes are normally meant for. Imagine running in the forest with spikes.

They are for different conditions so the spikes have an unfair advantage here if you run a 400 on concrete with both it would be the opposite and probably even worse for the spikes, also being able to run a marathon and not a sub 60 second 400 is crazy
