I love this pond! One suggestion, perhaps you could build an overhead sump so that all your filtration happens in one place rather than a bunch of different filters. You could also then make the return into a little waterfall that trickles back into the pond!

A surface skimmer actually goes a long way towards keeping it looking clear. It stops stuff building up on the surface which lowers the oxygen level and encourages algae growth. Annoyingly no one makes skimmers for small ponds though so you have to DIY it, or use a large aquarium one.

I've seen you post this pond on reddit, I'm so glad I stumbled across this video. I'm trying to talk my husband into bringing our pond in during the winter so maybe this will help! I breed goldfish specifically orandas and i got a couple of these 300gal. My filtration is just spongefilters(lots of them) i got very low nitrates and other toxins in the water very low by doing water chages(30% every 2 days). Also just placed lots of bio media ad plants within the stock tank. Also Changed the drainage into a pvc setup to be drained to the grass for easy water changes. I keep my stock tanks like this is because im constantly breeding and selling the fish. This pond setup absolutely blows me away its so amazing! Your fish are very happy living there.

First time seeing this project, looks incredible! haven't seen many indoor ponds look good. you have done a great job making it look natural with all the anubias and pothos. the only thing i would suggest would be to add some surface agitation, bubbles from sponge filters do very little to aerate the water btw the white ebay filters often sell under the name Sun-Sun if anyone if interested.. they are quality filters for the money.

This is an innovative set-up, you are enormously creative and your fish are fortunate to be cared by you. Also, thank you for being so detailed about the products you use and where you acquired them - especially the grow light. 👍👍👍Well done! This video is quite a treasure. Urban dwellers are always seeking to benefit from viewing videos like yours which show how you can have a pond when you may not have the outside space or may not want it outside because of predators. Personally, I would do this in my sunroom as I live near a a wildlife reserve and there are too many predators to contend with for a pond in my yard.

Amazing setup, but wanted to say that those UV lights on the SunSun filters tend to literally destroy the filter from the inside, if the UV lights are left on for long periods of time, it will begin to eat away at the plastic trays since its such a low-grade plastic, other than that issue SunSuns are imo the best bang for your buck, I personally have a 704b on my 75 gallon and the water is always crystal clear.

Great goldfish pond, to help control your nitrates you might want to have one of your filters flow through the flower box with the lava rock. Lava rock can be a good nitrate (anaerobic) filter as well as aerobic filter.

With all that filtration you shouldn't have any problems with nitrates or ammonia. Nice job. Yea, no heater necessary for goldfish or koi. The bettas on the other hand should be at about 72 F minimum. Or room temperature. That's a java fern in the betta tank on the rock. You could stock a lot more fish in the 300 once the filter has seasoned. The 3 canister filters will do the job along with the plants and aquaponics. Algae is good in a pond. Just not hair algae , can be unsightly. Regular algae makes pond sides look more natural and feeds off the fish waste. Keep it up and keep learning.
@baileysgoldfish56085 жыл бұрын

I am very happy with her and she is in my community tank, 37 gallons and no one bothers her. Pretty heavily planted for hiding. I have a hard time with being on a carpet. Looks nice but carpet?? All in all I am very impressed. I have a six hundred gallon stock tank sunk in the ground outside and my gold fish live there in the good weather. In winter we have a tremendous amount of rain and wind living on the Oregon coast so I move them to my one hundred gallon on the covered deck.

You are edging closer towards low fish density aquaponics. For a flood/drain gravel based system without solids removal... you can feed about 13g per square meter of veggies growing per day. I just have a single 25W water pump for my whole system ($21 per year in power). A 150gal Rubbermaid tank like yours with two 50gal stock tanks (same thing too) filled with lava rock and clay pebbles. Growing lettuce, kale, tomatoes, swiss chard, etc., etc. All running off of just 8 1yr old gold fish getting fed 4 to 6 times a day when the water gets around 75deg F. I try to keep the nitrates above 40ppm but have seen in many times higher and the gold fish were like honey badgers.

your pond is very nice. also the fishes. i really like to have a pond indoor but right now i live in the apartment, there are no space for me to put the tub that big. But you are using TOO MUCH MONEY FOR THE POND. Here is my thought to lower the cost as low as 400-500 dollars for the pond. 100 dollars for the tub 60 dollars for 2 led flood light 6000 kelvin (stick to the long flat wood hanging over the ceiling. There will be the enough amount of light for your plants). 100 dollars for the external canister ( running the outlet though all of the pothos plants pot you hang on the edge of the tub, the water will bring fish poop to feed the plant, plants and the aquaponic bedding + lava rock has large surface area for bacteria to grow, there for they are a perfect filtration system for your pond naturally) 40 dollars for pothos plants ( or you can use 40 dollars to buy plenty of any herb or plants, green onion, lettuce,...) 20 dollars for air bubble (optional). woods collected anywhere you can find and bake them in the oven for 3-4 hour. soak them in water for several days to sink them. Uv light(optional). This is my idea to lower the cost, and you can have fresh lettuce, or green onion to eat. :))))
@baileysgoldfish56085 жыл бұрын
Good idea! I agree, I spent more than necessary. The only thing I would try and squeeze in which is optional is a large UV light, the algae has gotten a little overwhelming before I had it. I also hated how clogged my canister would get with my aquarium. The flood lights I did look into also, almost ended up getting them! However when I was first wanting them I wanted to get into aquaponics and needed a light I was able to lower/raise easily. Flood lights probably would’ve looked better! Everything else I have is pretty optional I agree. Some day I hope my pond can be stable enough to hold maybe one or two more fancies. :)

You can have a small 20 or 40 gallon tote container and do something similar. It shouldn't be too heavy for your apartment flooring but if you think it is, then just get an aquarium stand or table to spread out the weight.

@pershop49505 жыл бұрын
Thank you .. Someone else agrees with me! Many people say you can't , but I do think you can also. For example, if fish bioload can only support 1 filter of X size, then there is no reason to have 2 filters of X size (total 2X). Even if you run 2 filters, then it just means 1 filter is doing 1/2 X and the other filter is doing 1/ 2 X, which still comes out to X (ie, 1 filter).

There is a warning in the stock tank about using a cage heater so I assume this means I can’t just dump an aquarium heater that may rub up against the stock tank. We are having a cold winter and I heat the house to 68-70 but the water has dropped down to 65. Maybe because it’s by a cold window. This won’t be an issue in spring but what can I do in the meantime
