Ok, wow. Matt, I've watched a ton of your videos. I've been hyper focused on katana lately. I absolutely loved the metal on metal tests you did here. Some of my favorite testing I've seen you do. Thank you so much. Also, big shout out to John at RVA Katana. I e picked up a cloud hammer from them, and they are great to work with.

16:44 great solid throws! Hear that impact. Impressive and thorough review. Enjoyed seeing you have fun with this. The iaido footage in the snow was a nice touch. Surprising to see how large the grain size is on the broken pieces. Was expecting a finer structure there. Thanks for showing

Too bad you lost the footage. I've found that steel to be very good, especially for an entry level. I'm looking forward to hearing what it took to break that blade. I've seen John step on one on his Instagram, way past the point of comfort, and it sprang right back to true. I dig the little details, and now that they've heard all of our feedback, they should only get better from here.

Good to see the 2nd one took a lot more doing to break.

Bend tolerance is different from impact resistance, though the blade should technically be able to resist impact better than it did

Great and informative review! I just wanted to thank you for introducing me to Cloudhammer Steelworks. I recently picked up their Sup12 Japanese spring steel cherry branch themed katana and I'm in love with it. One of the best swords I have used in a while. The fit and construction seems similar to the 51CRV4 steel blade in this review. I totally agree with you about the ito. Cloudhammer Steelwork's leather ito feels great in the hands, I don't know if I can go back to a regular cotton ito. Thank you and keep up the hard work! I look forward to your next review!

For some time I did not understand why the Crochet stick of doom was so destructive until recently I heard you say it was made of metal. Our Crochet set was all wood but its was really old.

Noto is coming along! Looking good. :) Something I've been thinking about recently is that it would be interesting to see some stress testing of various tsuba and other tosogu. I suspect a lot of it is very weak.

At this pricepoint of $300 ( which is my limit) would you recommend this Katana over the Ronin Dojo Pro series of similar price?

If Matthew Jensen with a $300 katana dueled a slightly less skilled Matthew Jensen with a Howard Clark, who would win? Love the reviews

I'm not that interested in Japanese swords but you do such thorough, well structured, in depth reviews I like to come by just to see the quality of your videos and the process of your reviews. By the way, you look like you could be a movie extra with your full beard, long hair down and your black costume. Imposing. Be well, sword-friend.

@@Matthew_Jensen What are ur thots on 54CRV4 (EN47) vs 1060 Steel for a budget sword? They're both "Spring Steels" & have .6% Carbon content. What's better overall?

no, but I did review the iaito from them earlier. They are similar swords.

Im actually surprised that it broke before deforming That steel is supposed to be tough! Not so surprised by the results against the t10 blade, t10 has double the carbon content as 51CrV4 as you mentioned. Now I am really interesting in seeing this Blade get slapped against a tree in midsummer when its 100° xD.

I tested a 9260 blade on the tree over the weekend. Took a little bend. It was 23 outside at the time.

Maybe, maybe not. I have this same steel and beat the snot out of it with no serious failure, just a little edge damage. Though still surprised it broke over the tree, so I guess it's not invincible.

What Japanese made katanas would you recommend for around 300 for aikido
@Matthew_Jensen Жыл бұрын
The only option for Japanese made would be an iaito from Tozando or like store in Japan. Most of the $300 options are made outside of Japan.
