I know its not going to be a popular opinion but I feel like this has to be one of the most overrated hip hop albums of all time. It obviously speaks to a generation of listeners but I think most of us old heads don't quite get the hype. To be honest I preferred GKMC to it. That being said there are some highlights my favorite joint on here is "The Blacker the Berry". Exceptional beat from Boi-1da. It has a sound that reminds me of Raekwon's "Glaciers of Ice". There's some real cool sample usage but to me, at times, it just sounded like the production was trying too hard and it wasn't quite meshing with Kendrick's flow.

I definitely hear you, It may be because I was still in high school when it dropped but most kendrick fans I knew at the time weren't nearly as hyped on it, most people I know def prefer GKMC and Section 80

I think it's like the evolution of Outkast. An older hip hop fan at the time might not have been as wowed by the elevated musicianship and conceptuality on aquemini and stankonia - they favoured southernplaya and ATliens for their directness and strong hip hop fundamentals.

I don't understand ANY of the hype/lore behind this artist, its one of those surreal moments where you feel like you're in a zombie movie or something. I'm old? What am I missing? Someone help make it make sense. I just skimmed through the first 3 tracks of this album and it sounds like absolute soulless horse sh!t. Some corny autistic faux intellectual talking like Ben Shapiro but at the same time trying to be some 70's P-funk era pimp or something? Cool man. I guess, if thats your vibe?
