These classic moc are the definition of what good leather aging is. They looked great even before the rebuild. Great craftsmanship of course by Nicks, but I like how the original toe box of the classic moc more.

Judging from the teardown, for a boot half the price, seems very well-constructed. A Mercedes will never match a Rolls, but, they are not meant to. Writing from (8-degree) Minnesota, and seeing grandpa get a new pair at Christmastime because the slop at Hormel's making SPAM was so nasty, I'm partial to RW's. (11 pair in my collection) But would some day love to own a Rolls: preferably the Nicks moc! Another excellent video: thanks!

Although a cool video and a clear upgrade, I still think the two piece moccasin construction is part of the original’s appeal. I understand it may not be water tight but I want a real moccasin stitch/ construction. Otherwise this is more of a design that competes with other mock moccasin stitched boots like Alden’s 405. Great video!

I've always wondered, while making boots, when is the last removed?
@thesharpercoder2 жыл бұрын
There are three nails that hold the insole to the last, which they did not show being installed in this video. The nails are removed at the 16:50 mark, just prior to the “bottoming” step.
@thesharpercoder2 жыл бұрын
The above is not exactly accurate. The last is removed after the heel stack is put on. What I described above is when the insole of the boot is detached from the last. Sorry.

@lukelarsson2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I’m an employee. I purchased these back in like 2014 at a Michigan Red Wing store but didn’t get sized correctly. I wore them for 6 years being two widths too wide. They were super uncomfortable and just sat in my closet for the last 2 years. I was planning on getting rid of them but then we got the Moc Toe stitcher. Now they fit and are built like tanks.

I think you guys should offer a more easy wearing comfort oriented wedge sole and or moc toe type boot. Maybe you should talk to Roseanvil and look into designing the perfect moc toe boot that he can debut for Moctober next year. I think it would mostly be like this boot here, but with a longer lasting max wear style wedge, speed hooks, maybe stitch through the wedge at the toe to prevent peeling, and find a way to make it a bit easier wearing/ comfort oriented. Maybe go with a cork fill instead of leather, maybe no shank, and come up with a softer leather to use for the insole / footbed. You guys could probably create the best wedge sole boot ever made.
@mateofenn Жыл бұрын
I really like moc toes and I’ve been fortunate enough to own a pair of Red Wings and Nicks moc toe (both barely used when bought). Nicks does offer a moc toe with about half the stuff you asked about. The 2021 outsole is a little longer wearing than RWs and they have speed hooks with stitch down construction. I find the Nicks more comfortable (not by a whole lot though) working on concrete floors than the Red Wings. If you’re really wanting comfort I like using insoles. You can get comfortable without sacrificing longevity and durability as you can always replace insoles.

MY BIRTHDAY WAS YESTERDAY. ahem the good year welt on the Red Wings is better than nicks where they just use the rest of the leather as a welt. but to each there own. I don't doubt that nicks boots are good quality but redwings are just that much more cheaper and easier to get resoled at a cobblers for less than taking it too nicks. at the same time i only have the redwing 405s which uses the more synthetic material, rubbery insole, and the foot bed isn't leather. I took them to get resoled, they replace the foam filling with cork and leather mid sole and Vibram Cristy.
