That 1964 leather is amazing. I live in Western Colorado where it’s really dry, with the occasional stream and waterfall. All that oil in the ‘64 is going to help keep my boots from drying out and cracking too early.

I'm getting close to the point of ordering my first pair of Nick's. This really helps me with the leather choice. Pretty sure the 1964 Walnut is what I'd go for. As stated in the video, it will all look similar given some time. I do have a question for anyone that can help with the following: I currently wear Carolina Loggers (composite toe required for work) in 11.5 2E. Does anyone have any experience in how these will line up with Nick's sizing? It's looking like it's recommended I go down a 1/2 size for a snug fit as I have now, but would love to hear from someone that has had these before. It's going to be a HUGE step up in quality, and price, so I'd like to do it right the first time. Edit: I'm looking at going with the Builder Pro.
@Totemparadox2 жыл бұрын
It's not 1/2 size down from your Carolinas, but a 1/2 size down from your Brannock sizing. Look at their diy sizing guide from their website. Worked perfectly for me.
@Patryn712 жыл бұрын
@@Totemparadox Thank you. I should have mentioned that my Brannock sizing is also an 11.5 when I was measured in the store. When I bought this most recent pair of shoes I also tried on some Thorogoods, but actually took an 11 in them. It was the first time I've ever had a boot that 'small' actually fit. It made me a little unsure about how to proceed with Nick's. I did print out their sizing chart from the website, but I ended up getting different numbers than what I got in the store which confused me even more.
@Totemparadox2 жыл бұрын
@@Patryn71 That's interesting. How much different?
@Patryn712 жыл бұрын
@@Totemparadox About 1/2 size. Barefoot on the printable chart I'm just over an 11 1/2. With socks I'm a solid 12. In the store, with my boot socks, I'm dead on an 11 1/2.

The 1964 Tan seems to be an outlier. Not a much finish or conditioning like the other 1964 leathers and seems stiffer. I just ordered a pair oof boots in the tan. I'm wondering if the tan is still considered your ez-break in or more like your max-support leathers. I'm also curious what type of conditioning you'd recommend with that tan leather.

I am having a hard time seeing the difference between Easy Break-In and Max-Support. So Easy Break-In would offer less ("Sub-Max"?) support than MaxSupport? Beyond the marketing lingo, I am having a tough time seeing the real reason to keep MaxSupport in the line-up, right? In other words: I appreciate the explanation videos, but please be clear about the trade-offs - because these will be there. I appreciate the tests, but there will be practical consequences: break-in time, durability, water-repellency - these would be the parameters that matter to workers. So any remarks on those parameters would be appreciated. You talk about water and oil absorbance, but we need to know what that would mean to particular jobs. Thank you!!!
@Totemparadox2 жыл бұрын
My man it's leather. You want easier break in? Buy the 1964 series. Don't over think it. You won't die if you get standard walnut instead of 1964 walnut. It very well might be that Nicks will completely transition to the 1964 since it seems like a superior leather, but that doesn't mean they will.
@77Matt2 жыл бұрын
@@Totemparadox What a weird response. I would still like Nicks to explain their commercial view.
@Totemparadox2 жыл бұрын
@@77Matt Not weird at all. Just putting your uppity ass back into its place. And what do you mean by water and oil absorbances impact on jobs? Of you work in a wrt environment, get the leather with most water resistance. Want better oil absorbance? Get a roughout boot .

For those who really put thier boots through abuse the old school leathers adds value. They are often guys who are wearing out a pair of these in a year or so then back in for a rebuild. I think it makes sense to keep a product that targets that regularly returning customer.
