Interesting timing, I had been looking into 300 weatherby a bit over the past few days. Also the different vanguard rifle models. Nice seeing a sub $1,000 hunting rifle that comes with a hinged floorplate. From what I've read, the barreled receivers are made by Howa, and Weatherby refines them and installs the stocks. A few companies have a signature vanguard rifle, cabelas, and sportsman's warehouse for example.

Pretty potent cartridge for sure. It was on my list of 30 cals that I was considering buying to compliment my beloved longtime 270 Win. That along with the 300 WSM (which I got in 2019), 300 Win Mag, 30-06, and 300 RUM. I wanted something that I could feel confident in for elk and big mule deer 🦌 and something else fun to load up and try out. I didn’t go with it because of the cost and availability of ammo, and most of the rifles outside of a couple Vanguard rifles.

My 300 Wby has never let me down. That said, the longest shot I've taken is in the 400 yard range. Thanks for all the info.

The 300 Weatherby is no joke. It’s a beast of a cartridge that will treat you right if you train yourself to handle its full potential. In short, I love this cartridge, I have two in my safe right now and will never be without one. I’ve put a lot of meat in the freezer thanks to the 300 Weatherby. Thanks for the content WTW

A few years ago I had a row of gallon (milk) water jugs spaced roughly 12"-18" apart. I went for one on the middle with a 300 WBY Mark V. 3 disappeared. It hit so hard that the jugs on either side burst. Not just split, burst. No way was that for real I attempted it again. Same story. Rocks were stuck into the bottom plastic. 2 rounds vanished 6 targets.

There was a guy at the range who was shooting a 300 wby. with a muzzle brake. That gun was twice as loud as any other rifle shot there that day. The range had to clear the shooting positions on either side because the blast was too distracting to the shooters. Some of the guys at the range who hunted Africa said the PHs tell clients to not bring rifles with muzzle breaks. The 300 wby would be a good plains game rifle in Africa provided the hunter can shoot it accurately. I read somewhere that Roy Weatherby took a 300 wby to Africa and hunted the Big Five with it.

i bought a 300 wby in 90s, sent it in to weatherby custom shop had muzzel brake put on it , sighted rifle in , shot half inch groups with ear plugs come first day buck i shot nice 8 point my ear hurt so bad couldnt hear out of it for days lesson learned

@@joem6779 Personally, I'd do without the muzzle brake and get a good recoil reducing stock to save my hearing. Welts from recoil heal faster than eardrums.

High BC means nothing if your rifle doesn't like them. Had issues getting much to work out of one of my 300 WBY'S then out of frustration I tried 180 gr Hornady flat base Interlocks and the gun shot insane groups, I could not believe the results I got out of these bullets. So much for High BC. The rifle took a trophy buck at 300 yards and the bullets performance was almost perfect. Find what your rifle likes and go for it. There's plenty of weatherby factory rounds you can order. They ahoot so much better with weatherby gold box. The 165 grain is the best.

One of the Big Time hunting magazines in mid '60's, had presenter spewing, Bulsht, Bulsht, Bulsht, big cartridges, Etc. Ended up piece summing up African Safari where dam near all big trophies taken.....& all w/one shot from sporterized 7mm Spanish Mauser, w/set trigger! I had one at time, so noted article, & in '76 dumped huge mule deer running off-hand@1/2 mi quartering away out in Wyoming.

This is my favorite cartridge for big game in North America and most African Game. If you hand load, I would recommend you give the 175 (B.C. = 0.520) and 200 Grain (B.C. = 0.608) Federal Terminal Ascent a try. The bullet kills like a partition and flies like a Barnes TTSX. My rifle has a 24” barrel and using Norma Brass, Federal 215M, and RL26 can hit 3,300 with the 175 Federal Terminal Ascent. I shot an Oryx on White Sands and it went thru both shoulders. Never recovered the bullet dune to it exiting. Oryx dropped to the ground.

Adam, that 300 Weatherby is sooOOOO Sweeeeeeeeeeeeet!!! And so is Bruce 😄 My poodle will stand up and look at me and that's my Q that it's bedtime lol. He just turned 12 and is almost blind and deaf and he's never missed one night not sleeping in the bed with me and mama. Awesome Video brother! ~Jay~

My encounter with the 300 Weatherby Magnum in the 1989 Remington Classic 700 model 24” barrel. My first hunt in Alaska caribou in 1991 - King Salmon - AK. Saved my money to purchase Weatherby Mark V 26” SS costing me $725, in 1995. Took caribou and the American Bison; One Shot One Kill. Handloads Barnes 200 X-bullet velocity 3000 fps.

The 180gr interlock which would be comparable to the cor lokt are quite "explosive" inside of 100 yards . I switched to the 200gr eldx .

Every cartridge has a purpose. The 300 Wby Mag will kill anything out there. For where I live and hunt in South Texas it is way more than I need. I do understand its purpose. There are hunters that do hunt really big stuff and at longer distances than I ever will. I pretty much just use a 6.5x55 built off an old Vz 24 action. Distances don't exceed 150yds, the deer and wild hogs drop fine, and it is very accurate. Why I love the cartridge is the small recoil. As long as the shooter has enough cartridge, anything you pick that you like will work fine.

I shot a 300 wby for many yrs. I have loaded nosler 125gr bt in it. Now i have a new 300 wby on order. I bought several different bullets to reload in it. Berger 185 gr VLD 200 gr Elite Hunter Hornady ELD X 178 gr M 195 gr X 200 gr I'm going to order some Nosler Accubond 200 gr to.

I'm from rural West Texas and mostly hunt in Texas so I'm fine with my 30.06 or my .300 win mag. I normally hunt whitetail deer with a .270 and it can reach out further than I'm comfortable with taking a shot! Thanks

Adam you are going to like the 300WHBY! I have the 300 and it was the 180 that I used hunting but it did shoot the 165 very good as well. For some reason I don’t reach for it but I should maybe I’ll take it on this years Elk hunt in Oregon. I’ll be hunting the Rosevelt Elk smaller and little different horns but larger body!

You need to provide another additional piece of information when you do “bullet drop chat” videos. That is providing the scopes height over bore measurement. This measurement does affect the bullet’s travel arc out to distance, so it will change the amount of dope (clicks up/down) you dial at a given range. Your info you are providing is only good for your rifle set up bc you aren’t providing all the information needed for a good/accurate/reliable range card.
