It's an amazing cartridge and one of the few I've never owned. If I had my current philosophy of buying military supported ammo which makes the ammo less expensive, I would have bought a rifle chambered in this cartridge years ago. The energy at distance makes the 300Wby a better all around *hunting* cartridge. I've got a short neck and everyone loves me. LOL.

If you're only going to have one rifle to hunt the globe, it would have to be chambered in 300 Winchester Magnum.

One rifle for everything around the globe? .375H&H. Good availability and you can go for DG with it. Other than DG though, yeah.. the .300 Win Mag is the best option for it's mega availability, good power and versatility.

@@marcmoore4115 I love my 375h&h. In Africa for the big 5 it's the minimal caliber allowed. In Alaska, they want to see at least a 375 for big bears. So, I get what your saying. But these hunts are expensive and most don't ever experience. Try to take it up a mountain and shoot across a cannon at a mt goat or sheep. Heck you would have trouble getting pronghorn or coues deer with it dew to its trajectory. 300 Winchester Magnum is a much better global hunting cartridge for reasons like that.

@@kylemartin832 yep, you're absolutely right. The only reason I'd say .375 is for the big ones, but ignoring them, any magnum in the .26 - .33 type of area will be fine.. but of them, the Win Mag is by far the most available and therefore the best option. If you go to a remote place and need ammo, odds are that you're able to find .300 Win Mag. Personally I like the WSM more, but I'm in Namibia and would reload it anyway... plus from here I can really only go to less remote places lol.

@@marcmoore4115 that's awesome you're in Africa. I hope to own land there someday. My future wife is Kenyan. Unfortunately hunting was banded in Kenya decades ago. Uganda and Tanzania are great hunting countries and both connect to Kenya. I'm with you, I kind of like the 300 wsm a little better. I see it getting more popular in the America 👍

I’ve had 2, 300 Winchester Magnum, Winchester Model 70’s over the years. Still have one of them. They both shoot, or shot well. I sold the first one I owned. To be honest, if I had it to do over, I’d have saved my money and just bought a 300 Weatherby Magnum instead. In my opinion, the 300 Weatherby Magnum is the best 300 Magnum on the market. I just love Weatherby cartridges all the way around. You gotta love those huge belted cases with those cool rounded shoulders.

One of the all time greatest cartridges. This is the upper limit of recoil that the vast majority of hunters can handle without extensive training and practice sessions. My personal favorite load is the 200 grain Nosler Partition.

My dad bought one of these when they first came out in 1963 the last year of the pre64 Winchesters and hunted with it for 30 years until I bought him a new Weatherby Mark 5 in a 300 Weatherby accumark! The 300 win mag. Never let us down ever! A little too much for smaller deer but perfect for elk!

My favourite all purpose hunting cartridge. If, God forbid, I was forced to get rid of all centerfire rifles except one, I’d keep the .300 win mag and never think twice about that decision. For everything in North America…it’s not always the best choice, but it’s almost NEVER a bad choice. Big game, small game, even dangerous (for North America, as in bears) game, long range, mid range, throwing distance range…. There’s a .300 win mag load that’s just right. Been handloading for mine for 14 years now. Oh! Unlike pretty much any cartridge more powerful than this, the small town hardware store, even here in rural middle of nowhere Saskatchewan, Canada, will have .300 win mag ammo if you need some.

It’s also about the upper limit that most shooters will be able to practice with and obtain great accuracy. Over that limit for some no doubt. But there’s a reason no cartridge of greater horsepower than this has ever come close to reaching its level of success and it’s not just marketing and money…this is about the top end for the average joe to be able to shoot well.

I recently bought A Winchester in 300 Win Mag, can’t wait to pick it up and shoot it, but I’m terrified of the recoil, because every where I’ve seen that it just blows your shoulder off. I think I’m big enough and experienced enough to take it 😬

I’m 56 and still shoot a 375 Weatherby a 454 CASULL and so does my wife. Ha do a series on society becoming soft. Just a suggestion. I was worried to but they are nothing. A 458 Lott on a lawn chair will get your attention. Pick a bullet because you like the way it looks and feels in your hand and MASTER IT. OHH IM A 223 guy. Ha I’m a 308 guy. Ha. You get it. Be sneaky and be a 35 Whelen guy. You get this or you don’t. Great channel. 😂

Clearly one of my favorite carthridge for hunting. It is everything I will ever need for North American games and then some. However, that belt make it less fun to reload for. It creates some issues that can be solved but it is just a pain compare to a beltless design. And since I reload also for fun, I am thinking about switching to the 300 WSM or the newer 300 PRC.... if only they were as popular as the good old 300 Win Mag!

@@ReloadingWeatherby Maybe I am the one not reloading correctly lolll I am curious to know how you deal with the bulge forming above the belt? Do you do anything regarding that aspect or you just resize without worrying about it? Usually, I used a full lenght resizer die that I back off just enough to avoid moving the shoulder back to far. Then, I have a special collet die made specifically to remove the bulge but to be honest I really don't like using it because it takes so much force it becomes just unpleasant reloading. What is your opinion about it?

@@feuerland81 I think you're doing it the correct way, I'm doing the lazy way. I full length resize but it doesn't get that close to the belt. Never have had an issue with the bump near the belt.

If you got to get a 30 caliber magnum to hunt with, and need easy to aquire ammo, then this is the one to get. Loaded with the same pressures and barrel lengths of the 300 Weatherby... They're virtually the same. I've got both, and to me they both kick the same and kill the same. The 308 Norma magnum also is a contender here.... but 300 Win Mag ammo is easier to find.

The 300WM is amazing. With my 200gr AB loads and less than 1MOA....OMG. 200gr 3000ftsec 4000ftlbs. Cheap guns decent priced ammo. Also super accurate. Who cares about the short neck. I have a long throat Vanguard i load my 200gr to the length of my magazine im still along ways from the lands.....and still get superior accuracy. And i Hit 3000ftsec without any pressure signs. Im a hunter not a paper puncher. 1 moa is good enough for me.

Great cartridge, but you can do better. It's called .300 Weatherby Magnum. Which is a cartridge and rifle combination, I find no fault with.
