Car looks awesome and being an automatic is great ! Most times now days I’m wishing my 99/996 was an automatic, is just less of a pain when you’re sitting in traffic. Anyway, is awesome you are driving it as it should be! I’m scared to death every time I take mine for a weekend ride , because it seems something different will break! Windshield washer is currently spilling licking all over the garage and etc etc LOL. Thinking getting a 997 as you eventually. Great content as usual. Julio

Thank you! I was driving my 996 20-30k miles per year, so the manual transmission just seemed … like driving. But I bet if I stepped back into it after 3,000 miles with the PDK I would notice for sure!

When I had HR springs. Most of my suspension noise was due to worn bushings and under torqued hardware. Re-torque fixed 90% of noises.

@@motorsandmeats88 has a great feel and ride on the 997.2 also. I still have the springs but I think the 4S use different H&R springs than the Carrera S.

Damn!! 3000 miles already!? I feel like you just got it 2 weeks ago. Time flies! I like the mod plans. It’s an S so I assume it’s got PASM. Worried about the impact on the PASM with lowering springs? Have you considered the DSC controller? Supposed to completely transform the ride. Spacers when you do drop it? Keep the videos coming and keep racking up the (s)miles!
@motorsandmeats88
@motorsandmeats88 9 ай бұрын
Haaa. Yeah it’s been 5 weeks (almost). Plenty of time for 3k miles, right?!? I’m not ruling out the DSC, but I’m gonna do the springs first and then see how it does. And YES! I forgot to mention spacers😬. I think it only needs 7mm vs the 15mm I had on the 996.

Nice! I’m keeping PASM for now and want to add the DSC controller first. Looking for some spacers too. Sharkwerks bypass is supposed to be pretty good

Be cautious with Launch Control. Make sure you get PDK, Transmission serviced regularly. Gen 1 PDK failures are known from abusing launch control.

I did the crossover on the 997.2 without PSE and regretted it. It was affordable but the sound difference was barely noticeable. Get the crossover with sport cats or crossover with sportier mufflers. I have the tubi cat back, sounds amazing, no drone, not too loud.
@motorsandmeats88
@motorsandmeats88 9 ай бұрын
Awesome. One of the good thing with these cars is we can take one step at a time on the exhaust mods. On my 996 I had FabSpeed Supercup mufflers, and they were nearly as loud as full delete pipes minus the cabin rumble. So far I’m enjoying the stock sounds, but I know I’ll be wanting more soon. Something totally intoxicating about this 9A1 engine when it hits 4k RPM and up!
@kuhngeoff
@kuhngeoff 9 ай бұрын
Wow supercup would be brutal. Then I could see the OEM 997.2 exhaust being a positive change in your case.
@motorsandmeats88
@motorsandmeats88 9 ай бұрын
@kuhngeoff for long trips, it was all about finding the right RPM to minimize drone. At 75mph, it was loud but fine. At 85, I was drop to 5th (manual) to get rid of the drone!

I agree about the 996, I have a manual and is a more raw driving experience. My 997 is manual as well. The 996 is on sale but I’m going to miss her.

It did sell. It now lives about 2 hours away, and I stay in contact with the buyer. He initially was going to remove all the decals but has since decided to keep them. He has also added a 997 GT3 short shifter and has promised me a drive next time I’m in town.

Hi Michael, have you look into removing the fuel pump fuse if the car has not been driven for a while? To increase oil pressure before allowing gas to go in. Just heard about that. I just wanted to know if you have any thoughts about it. Thanks.
@motorsandmeats88
@motorsandmeats88 9 ай бұрын
I have heard of that. I’m a fan of the Aston Martin DB9 as well, and they have a built in feature to allow that to happen by some combination of pressing the gas pedal and turning the engine over. It circulates the oil without sending the fuel to the engine. I wish our 911’s had that function built in. But mine has been driven about 7,500 miles per year, so I’m not worried about it. If yours is lower mileage and won’t be driven regularly, pulling the fuse is a good idea for sure. Being in Mississippi, I don’t have to put away the car for the winter either. Definitely something to do in the spring if you have to put away your car!

Do you ever miss the shifting and the more mechanical feel on the 996?
@motorsandmeats88
@motorsandmeats88 4 ай бұрын
Definitely. Pros and cons to both. My next 911 will be a 996 GT3, so I’ll get to row through the gears again. But in the meantime, I really love working the paddles in sport mode, especially when late braking and downshifting a few gears quickly into a corner.

@motorsandmeats88 i was thinking of a 997.2 also but im scared I will miss the shifting on my 996.2
@motorsandmeats88
@motorsandmeats88 4 ай бұрын
@joaquinsantillan6257 the thing I miss more than shifting is the lack of engine modes. Maybe that sounds crazy, but I liked having 100% consistency in the throttle response every time I drove the car. With the PDK, I like slow driving around town in traffic in normal mode. But I don’t like slow driving around in sport mode. It’s a bit jerky at stop and go traffic since it downshifts sooner than normal mode. First gear is really the only annoyance. But get outside of city traffic, and the PDK is a blast.

@@joaquinsantillan6257 definitely coming. Getting the wheels powder coated in two weeks, lowering springs going on while that’s being done, and then I’ll measure for the best spacer fitment.

@@motorsandmeats88 that will be great. I’ve been watching James for a while trying to work out what he does and why he’s in the states. I’ve got a 2008 997.2 C2S PDK myself. It’s arctic silver which didn’t want but has now really grown on me. It has Carrera S ll wheels also but mine are anthracite for some reason. I also have the crappy buttons but I like the multifunction and heating I have on it also. It is also wrapped in alcantara which feels amazing to me. I have silver repeaters also. I’m loving the car and great fun in manual mode. I tend to use the shifter although even that is backwards. I sometimes drop it down with wheel button on left in auto mode for overtakes etc then let it return to auto which works. I’ll sub and keep on watching. Even though I have one it’s great to see other peoples take on my car. Also tell James he’s dead wrong on the tail lights. At night they look slick as fook. The front end I also prefer on the .2!
