This was a TESTING day, both rifles shot very well, very good constant wind and conditions, their were a lot more shots of different rounds, but these are of the best comparable rounds between the 2, both running the 250grn rounds as explained in the front of the video.... FYI, too early to really say, but this testing showed the PRC was the same as the Win Mag with the lighter 230grn projectiles, but when we went to the 250grn, it showed slight pressure signs at the same powder load that the Win Mag did not....as said early days, may just be a brass thing, the primers did not show the pressure issue, just sticky cases in the PRC..... As for the A-Tips, also just our first real look, but at this point these 250grn are performing very well, we did sort and order by weight (slight differences) but seems the bigger the better with these.....As said early days, Cheers

So the prc has a higher pressure rating than the win mag. Seems weird that you experienced pressure issues with the prc over the win mag. Do you have any guess as to why?. Maybe I'm not understanding the pressure rating correctly. With a higher pressure rating and roughly 5 percent more space capacity, the prc should have no problems.

Hi Guys! Always enjoy your videos. I see you used AR2225 Powder and said you got pressure signs on a very slow moving load on the 300PRC. AR2225=Retumbo I think and I found that the 230 and 250 A-Tips didn't excel with Retumbo out of a 28" 1-9tw Bartlein. I found VihtaVuori N565 to be an excellent powder for the 225 ELD-M's, better in the 230 A-Tips, and exciting in the 250 A-Tips. I pushed what many would consider a hot load with a 250gr A-Tip with Hornady soft brass, N565, FGMM 210 primers on a 30F (-1C) wet and miserable day...at 2931fps with a slight ejector swipe. ADG will be releasing 300PRC brass soon...and it should help me with making that my standard load. Of course these were too long to magazine feed....but they shot with a very consistent vertical out to 1760yds. Good to see you guys shooting. Always have fun.

Thanks Man, sounds great, just not an option over here, those powders are not sold in Australia...Cheers

@@markandsamafterwork That is a shame. I wasn't happy with Hodgdon H1000, Retumbo was my go to powder for the 225 ELD-M's but was replaced by N565. I didn't like N560 nor N570. RL-33 was an abject failure in the 300PRC. Reloader 25 was a failure and RL - 26 is like Unicorn Dust around here at the moment. I haven't tried it yet, but I doubt it will be better for me than the N565 according to the burn rate charts. If you were to load to fit within a standard magazine length ( say a sako trg 300 win mag magazine), would their be a difference ballistically? Or is this all just bs marketing? I have read that 300 win mag needs to push the long heavy bullets into the power capacity to load them within the magazine. But seeing as you don't actually come close to filling the max power capacity in either round before pressure starts...does it even matter? Cheers and Thanks

Just watched the video, great shooting as usual, shot some of the A-Tip's in my 260 today with similar results, getting minute or less groups at 1000 yards when I could hold still long enough, can't wait till I can get some for my 338 Lapua
@markandsamafterwork5 жыл бұрын
Sounds great, the 6mm A-Tips where OK but not like these 250grn 30cals, so be interesting to test the 6.5's at some stage, Cheers

And here I was concerned about running the 225gr ELD-M in the 300wm, due to the length. This video leads me to believe that this shouldn't be an issue.

To run the 250's in the WM what coal are you loading them to?
@markandsamafterwork5 жыл бұрын
Listed in the video.
@flighttherapybullisticfpv1335 жыл бұрын
ITs 3.78" COAL for the 300 win mag and slightly longer for the PRC.. I think you would be limited to single feeding these rounds in most factory magnum actions
@79attaboy5 жыл бұрын
Hornady recommends a 1-81/2 twist. Are you seeing a 1-9 as able to stabilize the 250gr bullets?

Good video.. in my opinion it's looking more and more like the .300 prc is just another fad cartridge and the old saying if it isn't broke don't fix it stands true for the win mag.
@markandsamafterwork5 жыл бұрын
I hear you, personally I will let the dust settle and see, it has some good design features, but really depends on the market, if enough manufactures pick it up, then it will end up a good thing, if not, then yep just another fad, Cheers

Have you seen any advantages in the PRC. I am thinking of building a custom long range/hunting rifle and looking at 300 wm 300 prc and potentially a 7 saum. I know adg is supposed to be releasing some brass for the 300 prc soon so have some other options coming there. Any thoughts?

@@welldonecj7 All in the video, other than that, apart from doing this rifle, I would normally wait at least a couple of years before I went with a new cartridge, so too early for me to say anymore, Cheers

I would be willing to bet that in 1963, there was an old .30-06 guy saying something similar about the .300 win. And really, what cartridge wasn’t a “fad” at least once in its life? Nothing is tried and true right out of the box. “Tried” can take some time. Nothing wrong with either caliber, or any caliber for that matter.

@(T)(h)(e)(D)(u)(d)(e) Hahah, you're joking aren't you? The Government and the Military were behind not adopting the mighty FAL (instead, they went with a lemmon) and then later going with the 10mm. Who the hell sites GOVERNMENT when it comes to good ideas or good judgement?? I left the Military for a reason, social experiments trying to entertain Women in combat (sure, they had to water down standards to those of handicapped levels just for them to qualify..but hey, "progress") and now freaks in dresses and that's your argument? Government? The 300PRC is for the pretty girls wearing full monkey suits, cool gear and nice little paper distance holds on their optics, while making sure their dark flat earth tactical pants don't rip, the "PRS" crowd. Other than that, it's a gimmick and it doesn't do anything that the win mag already does. Don't take my word for it, watch this same video. And yes, Hornady benefited from Remington's bad management of the .260. They saw an opportunity and took it.
@DrewEdwardBacklas4 жыл бұрын
Surprised you are able to push a 250 that fast from a WM. What is your COAL? Are you running a regular long action/magazine or do you have to run a magnum action/magazine for longer OAL? Or is the velocity simply a product of the 28” barrel? I was under the impression the selling point of the PRC vs the WM was the ability to load longer projectiles without compromising the powder column, but you seem to be getting equal if not greater velocity from the WM with the same projectiles. I was considering a 300PRC over a WinMag until I stumbled upon your videos. Thanks.

Have you ever considered getting a spotting scope with a reticle. It would make the spotting allot better and Save you money in the long run. Just mho
@markandsamafterwork5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the thoughts, but not how we do it, spotters job is to tell me where the bullet landed, not to call me onto target, references work better that mil or moa calls in our style of ELR shooting, and best vision is helped with clean vision (no reticle) FYI, you don't adjust the same amount as you see, once again, doesn't work that way, Cheers

Thanks for the video! The scrolling info during the video, and the additional info in the comments section are great! All my questions have been answered. Still on the edge of my seat as you move forward with this. My Winny is a Browning lever for brush hunting, these videos have me itching for a new bolt. But to justify the money, it'd have to be an elk/moose gun my daughter could pack. So far my research has me seriously considering the .270 WSM My ULR fun will have to be limited to, how far away can I hit a 24" plate with a wood stock, pencil barreled hunting rifle, haaha. If you can shoot a 45-70 out to a mile with a piece of wire taped to the receiver for an aperture sight, there's hope for me yet.

Did we miss an important "feature" of the 300 PRC? I don't have the time or money to keep reloading 300 Win Mag to satisfy the bullet seating needs of the 300 Win Mag. Now we have the SAAMI specs for the 300 PRC! Now I can purchase factory ammunition and have the bullet seated out far enough to get some really remarkable accuracy. 300 Win Mag hand loaded is great but not so great when it comes to factory ammo. This really puts the 300 PRC ahead of the 300 Win Mag. I'm not going to sell my 300 Win Mag but if I don't have the time to hand load, my 300 PRC is my choice of caliber.
