Is that a light sensor for the headlights? I can only guess. Great video

I looked it up ,it's a sun load sensor for the a/c system to adjust to the outside sunny/shady conditions in auto climate control mode. In newer nissan/infinitys (like 07+) I found they use it for adjusting the interior lighting.

If you don’t mind me asking…what did you pay for your carbon fiber vents? I have the same problem with my dash. That would be an excellent solution instead of removing the dash to fix it.

They were $195 for the complete set, but for the set without the carbon fiber i believe it was 165 but check their site to be sure. Great solution in my opinion instead of messing around with the whole dash.
